To my ears at least, it's the Production - it sounds a bit flat in the mix, but only by comparison to the great sound of the other albums. The songs themselves are classics, no argument there, but somehow Hatful was really a major improvement with a the more immediate sound of most tracks from the Peel Sessions and B-Sides ("Reel Around the Fountain" being the exception) that was more fitting of the early songs, and is in result one of the essential albums of The 80's and forever, even if it was a Compilation. Meat Is Murder may have dipped a little in the lyric department, but with the production adding in a fullness and occasional experimentation that was perfect for the songs. The Queen Is Dead is a classic from start to finish while despite it's brief running time Strangeways to me had quite a few classics and a sharp production that resulted in on excellent way to finish. |

Yeah everyone definitely has vastly different opinions when it comes to SY albums. Experimental is definitely too high there for me. A little sad to see my favourite last on your list and Sonic Nurse is top 5 material for me too.

I've never really spoken to somebody who agrees with another persons SY album preferences. They're always different. For example Daydream Nation isn't my favourite album, which a lot of people think I'm strange for. And I really really rate Experimental Jet Set, such a wicked record.
I want to see this band so badly right now. They're #1 on my list to see before I die, but I have a feeling that I'll never get the chance to. Will hate life if this turns out to be the case. Also, where is The Eternal in your list? |

As for the most recent album.........well, I`m so far behind my listening schedule and have a huge backlog of stuff to catch up on, in fact I`m listening to new stuff still from 2008 still. I`m kind of 2 years out of date. |
