Occasionally, I will by CDs or DVDs in a musical shop, in there CDs and DVDs quality is very good because most of people buy everyday CDs and DVDs. Most of time I will buy CDs online.

Most of the time, I'll just download what I want. If I actually want a copy of a particular CD, I'll usually check to see if I can find it secondhand in a music store - most music stores in my area have a good selection of used CDs for $5 - $7. Failing that, I'll buy it used from Amazon, Ebay...or directly from the artist, if it's an artist I really want to support.

If I just want new music, I'll go to flea markets, yardsales, or check Craigslist to see if anyone is getting rid of a lot of CDs / records. That works out rather nicely.

I buy them online with Amazon when I don't have time to hit the record store. When i'm in Seattle however, I check out Easy Street. One of the most amazing record stores i've ever seen:

shops are divided by genres:-

for metal - I go to Campbell Complex (3 shops there which specialise in metal)
for hipster/obscure shit - Rock Corner in Bangsar Shopping Village
for 80s/New Wave - Victoria Shopping Centre - Sungei Wang Plaza
for cheap country and classic rock comps - Rock Corner in KLCC
for popular music - Love Music in Ampang Park
for weirdo jazz/prog/reggae/punk - Rock Corner in Midvalley/The Gardens

above are in Kuala Lumpur

for cheap obscure hip-hop, I go to Inverno Records in Mahkota Parade, Malacca

Tower Records is the place to go in Dublin, they have an excellent selection of stuff in there and a pretty decent vinyl selection. Freebird used to be a great spot as well but that's gone now isn't it? Must try and get up sometime soon.
