you couldn't get people to stop talking about how unbelievably amazing Joy Division was 6-7 years ago - when Interpol first hit big and indie was some kind of new big thing. even now, Joy Division is basically the Led Zeppelin to anyone with a sideways haircut.

Blue Cheer gets brought up every single time someone talks about The Stooges.

it's not possible to have a conversation about Experimental or Avant Garde music without someone going off about the Residents.

they might not get critical recognition in the mainstream, but that's also the mainstream that celebrates Lady Gaga as being a true artiste with depth. what do you honestly expect to come out of that demographic?
You're kind of making my point, Joy Divison is the most recognized out of my list, but they don't get the praise they should in influencing the Emo music scene, thats my point with Blue Cheer you have to mention The Stooges for someone will even think about Blue Cheer and they were probably the Godfathers of metal. As for The Resident isn't the whole Avant Garde scene about not being recogized, but they influenced for much that no one knows about bands like Primus and They Might Be Giants. There was even a reference on The Simpsons to the single Santa Dog' 92 that a lot of people didn't understand.

The fact that Mars never released a studio album is one of the biggest tragedies in music.

I know man, I've been listening to them in particular a lot lately, which is how I posted that. They're really good, I love how unrestrained they are... I suppose all no wave bands are to an extent. It was certainly an interesting scene.

For sure. It's one of the only genres where every thing released is gold.

I like No Wave it was kind of a anti-movement and I heard that Sonic Youth were really into it.
