Well here's a subject I excel in!
The Smalls - "Domination" Awesome hard rock band out of Edmonton that rocked its way through the '90's and first few years of the '00's. Unfortunately they've broken up. Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - "The Innsmouth Look" Vancouver natives who fuse punk rock sounds with tongue and cheek references to horror author H.P. Lovecraft. Still active and should be putting out an album sometime in the near future. WarsawpacK - "Attention to Deficit" A band I've introduced to a lot of members on this forum, a terrific blend of hip hop and funk with some smooth melodies and thought provoking lyrics. Disbanded however vocalist Lee Reed put out an EP in late '09 Barstool Prophets - "Robin's Song" A band that sadly never took off but had some really great melodies and songs. Sadly disbanded. Sweatshop Union - "Comes & Goes" A hip hop collective from Vancouver who've put out 4 albums, each building on what the last one put down. Their 2008 release Water Street is so far the pinnacle of their song writing abilities, specifically from the MC in this song, Kyprios. Alive and still kickin' baby. Strapping Young Lad - "Almost Again" Probably one of the best metal bands to come out of Canada. Each of the musicians brings something to the table, but the drumming of Gene Hoglan and the vocals and guitar work of Devin Townsend bring a whole new level of insanity to extreme metal. That said every one of the musicians from SYL has gone onto different side projects, all of which are worth a look. Disbanded. I could go on for a long time but I'm just going to leave it at this for right now. I'll admit Canada produces some of the most gut wrenching pathetic excuses for music, which get most of the attention of the outside world, but peel away rotting layer of filth and you find a vibrant and robust music scene all across the country. |

Whenever I think of "Canadian bands!," three groups leap to mind immediately.
