CD preferably and then FLAC digital, it can then be converted to anything I like.

I have a lot of vinyl, vinyl isn't that great despite what the bandwagon riders say. 8-Track is nice for nostalgia but that's about it. I do miss cassettes and performing surgery on them when they get chewed or if they snap.

I've a feeling MIDI will be the underdog in this one. When I was a kid I actually loved browsing the net for those little midi jams, haha.

CD is my preferred format and i always rip cds into Apple Lossless for my ipod, but i listen to a lot of mp3s as well. I would listen to vinyl but my turntable has bitten the dust.

Then now is the time to think about getting a new turntable that can convert analogue to digitial.

I listen to CDs I like the feature of skip, repeat, random on CD players something record players don't have, but I prefer LPs for sound, dispite thier fault. And you can convert them to mp3 etc.

That's a good point, with the way things are going CDs could become obsolete in the near future. The main advantage of a cd over vinyl was it's compactness, you could slip a cd into your discman and listen to it wherever. But now mp3 players have taken over and people only listen to cds at home on their stereo, but why listen to a cd at home when you could listen to a vinyl record with better sound reproduction.

I probably will get a new turntable soon but i'm a bit weary of converting vinyl to digital, i'm not really sure what the sound quality of the file would be like. But a lot of new records come with download codes so you can download the digital product as well.

What I like the most are vinyls, but to be honest, I only listen to them extremely rarely so I don't think I could vote for it with a clean conscience. My second choice in the list is the ogg format. The reason is simple .. it's good (although the real difference in quality between the popular lossy formats is mostly detectable at lower BRs) and it's open source and free. Any media player can support it and so I think those who appreciate free lossy formats should as well.

The worth of lossless formats is greatly exaggerated. You need really good ears and equipment to identify better qualities at the standard BRs today and even then, reliably identifying the higher bitrates when you get to high quality lossys and up to lossless is not something I've seen or read about anyone doing. I've only seen and read about people who fail at it and know from testing that I'm no better.
