Musicians that weren't cut out for fame.

Which musicians do you think just weren't cut out for it all? I mean artists like John Lennon and Kurt Cobain who just couldn't handle the fame.

I think John Lennon handled the fame just fine. He just had one bat**** crazy fan.

Lee Mavers. Tortured artist if I ever saw one.

Saw that one coming. No way, if you ask me. He had big-time emotional and family problems (growing up and as an adult). He wanted out of the beatles the whole time. Instead of embracing it, like paul, he slowly destroyed himself (with drugs, really. and i'm not talking about recreational use or a cute little addiction). After the beatles broke up, he disappeared for awhile. he was at an all time low at the end of the bealtes. his heroin addiction was destroying him, yoko had a miscarriage, and he felt as if he was selling out by being in the beatles. Plus he was divorcing his wife and never got to see his son. his contribution to let it be was minimal, with "Across the Universe" being his only real contribution.
In reality it was Yoko who saved him. Sure he was like a dog on a leash with her, but she gave so much to him. After the beatles break up, he settled down, escaped the spotlight for a while, and started a family with Yoko, being a true father to his son sean.
Unlike cobain, he didn't kill himself. In the end, he was happy. but i think his life would have been a lot better had he never joined the beatles or achieved the fame he did. but i'm selfish and am glad he did.
his story was really sad. i could go into it in a lot more detail (i actually wrote a paper on him a couple years ago).
I don't think he was cut out for the fame.

It's always portraited that it was John who was the most ambitious to have The Beatles number one in Liverpool, the UK, then over-seas. I guess that was before what he knew what it was to be famous. After being locked up in hotel rooms, (and all the other things mentioned above.) But after the breakup he used his fame with the help of the press to further his cause for peace. I thought he was strong enough where he could take it or leave it, when he took a hiatus to raise Sean. Being famous is one of the toughest gigs out there, I thought even though he had his own troubles (like the excesses that come with fame like drugs etc.) but he handle personal side fame well, he wasn't haughty. I thought he embraced it by living in NYC not somewhere where he was isolated.

I always thought John wasn't cut out for fame, and it was Paul. Paul wanted to be Elvis and John shied away from it.. I never thought anyone had conflicting arguments about that. Oh MB you do throw refreshing surprises in my face on occasions. :D
