I couldn't think of doing anything worse than playing Pink Floyd.
Zeppelin are a different story.
Black Dog and whole lottta love are fun to play.
Mine was alright with the first one he taught me A D C or something
Then I decided I wanted to tackle it again when I was 17
Went to another one and started to learn Smells Like Teen Spirit, then I realised he was teaching me the proper chords instead of the power chords version. He wanted to get me going up and down the fret board, I wanted to play it like Kurt. So that pissed me off. So yeah 4 lessons, the second lesson with the second teacher we parted ways. But they were nice to have for the 4 weeks to speak to and guidance etc. I've been playing a year in June and can read any tab and play, some take more looking at than others so I think I'm doing okay. how long have you been playing?
Nice! keep it up!
I've been playing for... 11 years? Yeah that sounds right. Back when I was a kid I used to be into lots of heavy stuff (along with the Beatles of course). Then in high school I calmed down a bit and got into more acoustic stuff (check out Phil Keaggy if you don't know him. He's incredible!!! Favorite guitarist next to Gilmour, Petrucci, and Satriani). I think during that time my playing suffered a bit. Then I started getting into heavier stuff again.

Now I'm away at school and don't have a guitar with me (and it's killing me)! But I'm jamming with my buddy later on in the week so that'll be awesome. Plus not having a guitar here forces me to play more piano. It should force me to do homework, but you know how it is...

So you're 25ish? I think learning different styles is the key. I learnt the English national anthem just 'cause I wanted something different. I like a lot of simple songs though, I think writing something and getting a nice melody out of 3 chords is a talent. But I also do guitar fills, bends, slides etc. But simple blusey/folk story telling type chords are a good thing IMO and shouldn't be seen as simple. Simplicity is the key.

25 and at school? You at uni? If they have them in yankland I'm so culturally ignorant. I'll do you a deal, I'll bring my fender if you let me stay at your place for the week. piano is something I've been thinking about attempting for a while. Looks tricky though, but apparently they have their own chords.. just like guitar. So I may try it some time.

Nah I'm nineteen. I started playing at age 8 and it's been 11 years. And yeah im at uni. and you don't wanna stay at my place, I hardly fit. I'd definitely recommend taking up piano. It helps so much with understanding guitar and music in general really. It's like a gateway drug.

And you got it: simplicity is key to writing a good song. Then layering on top of it if you want a bit more.

While we're on the topic of simplicity, do you listen to Elliot Smith at all?

Grade 8 = 8 years older?
Over here year 8, you're 13.
It looks more difficult than guitar to pick up which has always put me off, dunno if I'd get piano chords. I really picked up guitar chords.

I do, 14th on my LAST FM. I love him, I learnt No Name #1 the other day. I love that song. He was brilliant.

i stopped taking lessons in 8th grade. I started in 2nd.
once you get an understanding of where the notes are on the keyboard its really not too bad. Chords are fairly easy. it's just the two hands doing two different things that im having a tough time with. but hey, practice makes perfect, right?

I just got into him about a month ago. He was great. Poor guy.

Love is a strong word, though. I loved the album Slippery When Wet, thought the follow-up New Jersey was alright, and that was the end of my 'love' affair with this band.
wow dude, that takes some serious guts to own up to hahahah

my first album was a little earlier than that (i'm sure i've posted it here before but whatever).

first band i loved and felt like the music was being played specifically for the benefit of my ears was Mother's Milk-era Chili Peppers, no band has blown my mind to that degree since.

I thought that. especially on a forum where they're seemingly hated even though they're not THAT bad.

I had that on cassette too. Probably within the first 10 albums I ever purchased.

Yes, they are. Slippery When Wet was a good album for its time, but damn have they been super lame since shortly after.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.
