Default 8Tracks - Reinventing the Mix Tape

The underrated craft of creating a mixtape has been a dying art in recent years. Ever since the rapid availability of CD burners, the forethought that went into making an actual tape has been replaced by throwing on 18 popular tracks for your friends, or just throwing on full albums if you're into MP3 CD's. Mix CD's are kind of a double edged sword in that while you're given the option to easily skip a track you dislike, it also means that you can miss the meaning the creator had for including that track. With actual cassettes, the creator had a pretty good chance that the listener would hear each song at least once, and hopefully grasp the theme or message the creator intended to bestow.

8Tracks is a website that allows you to create a mixtape online by uploading the tracks you want (a minimum of 8) and listening to the mixes that other people have made. It kind of takes that 3rd step from what Myspace started and Last.fm built upon, mixing the aspects of social networking based upon musical preferences. It is a really cool website that may aid you in finding new music and making new friends. One of the coolest features is that it will only let you skip 2 tracks per hour, bringing back some of the aspects of the old fashioned mixtape.

Considering the 10-Tracks Mixtape thread has pretty much all but died, this may be a new way for users on this site to create mixtapes without the hassle of media upload sites. This is a very cool service that has kind of reignited the passion I use to put in making the "perfect" mix. If anyone is interested you can add me, my user name is LoathsomePete. Here are a few of my mixes:

Studying/ Reading Mix

Thinking Man's Hip-Hop Mix

Hip Hop and Heartbreak
