Beefs
When musicians fight, either in a war of words or in some kind of physical altercation, it is known ('specially in the hip hop community) as a beef. A well known example is the infamous Biggie Smalls/2pac beef that ended in both of their deaths. Discuss some of the most interesting beefs here.
One that's always struck me was the Mr. Bungle/Red Hot Chili Peppers BEEF RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis saw Mike Patton performing with Faith No More and somehow got it into his head that Patton was imitating his style (and anybody who knows Patton's work knows it that couldn't be farther from the truth) There was further conflict when Patton's later band, Mr. Bungle, was scheduled to release their album California around the same time as the RHCP album Californication. This resulted in an angry Kiedis pulling Mr. Bungle from several shows in Europe, shows for which Bungle had been booked months in advance. From my tone it may be obvious who i'm siding with here. I think Patton put it best with “Our agent was in the process of booking these festivals, and it was becoming apparent that we'd landed some pretty good ones—one in France, another one in Holland, some big-name festivals. Turns out someone's holding a grudge! We were booted off several bills, specifically because Anthony Kiedis did not want us on the bill. He threatened to pull the Chili Peppers if Mr. Bungle was on the bill. Now, rationalize that one! That's so ****ing pathetic! I mean, this guy's selling a million records! We are not even a speck of dust on this guy's ass! What's the f*cking problem?" Mr. Bungle never really bit back, and disbanded shortly afterwards. Winner Anthony Kiedis of The Red Hot Chili Peppers Loser (tragically) Mr. Bungle Last edited by someonecompletelyrandom; 03-29-2010 at 11:57 PM. |

Well...only because I am listening to Smashing Pumpkins right now...
Billy Corgan vs. Kurt Cobain Yep, fighting over a woman. Courtney Love, no less. Gross. A stain on one of my favorite musicians (Billy...I like Nirvana ok but I could care less about Kurt). EDIT: Man, you really put some time into that one. I'll post the winner of my beef: Winner: Billy Corgan Because he didn't end up with Courtney Love, who would have killed his ass had he done so.

It's not really a fight between musicians, but I think one of the more surprising fights was between Iron Maiden and Sharon & Kelly Osbourne. Find the story here:

There are two feuds, Johnny & Joey Ramone and John & Tom Fogerty that I always thought were unfortunate since each feud had one (Joey & Tom) die before making amends. The Fogerty one is a little personal with me since I don't talk with my brother anymore and I probably should.
More obvious feuds like Neil Young vs. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Liam vs. Noel Gallagher are interesting since one spawned two awesome songs and the other makes for great entertainment. |
