It's not awful but the reason that song gets me going is that thumping bass line at the beginning of the song. It's got great pop hooks so yeah it transfers to the singer/song-writer style decently, but I think there are more worthy candidates...

where's the fire? the oomph! the intangibles that push a simple 2-3 chord song into something that ignites the soul and provokes reaction within the listener? please OP don't make the same mistake of missing the point of your source material with your choice of covers. sorry for the derail. if you want to try something really interesting i'd suggest covering 'Only Shallow' by My Bloody Valentine. |

I think the best covers are when the bands make there songs there own. I'm aware we are talking about Singer- Songwriters here but here's a band who did a great job of completely changing up this classic punk song.
These guys took a sogn and made it their own, they most likely didn't have the same intentions the Minutemen had when they wrote this song but they nailed it. I don't see whats wrong with covering a punk song and changing it up a lot, sure you can say that it was written the way it was to make it easier to play on stage and have a presence, but when covering a song it's up to you what you want to do with it. And Fugazi's songs are most certainly not simple. But I see what you're getting at. If you want to do something else a little different you could try this; Last edited by BTown; 03-17-2010 at 02:30 PM. |
