I kinda hate torrenting for a couple of reasons... on a few occasions I have picked up inferior quality stuff, that no matter what i do to it, I can't get it to match other tracks level of quality, giving the album a patchy sorta feel... also i hate it when the only available file is all corrupted, you just wind up having to put up with it... I have one track in particular that has CD skips all through it, couldn't find another version... will probably just have to buy that track somewhere or indeed, the whole album at some point...

Pretty much the only time I’ll ever download a release is if it’s super rare or out of print and costs an absolutely ridiculous amount to buy.
Aside from the fact that I like to support the artists, a big part of the enjoyment is actually having the album outlay/artwork in front of me as a full piece of art in it’s entirety. This is especially the case when the release is being done by a label who takes a lot of time and effort with this sort of thing. There’s one good store downtown here that has a fairly good selection of underground extreme metal and obscure music in general, only thing is it’s not uncommon for them to sell cd’s around $22 CAN or so (or even more) without taxes. I’ll shop there occasionally if they have something I want and am too impatient to wait for mail delivery at the moment but much more often I’ll just go to one of the handful of small online distros/labels I like and get the releases for much much cheaper. Amazon can be useful occasionally too. |
