Yeah, that is just stupid on so many levels. Even Yngwie Malmsteen, I don't dig his music too much, but to call him one of the worst musicians of all time when he's a hero to many talented musicians is just absolutely juvenile and offensive to me. As for Asia, like I said earlier I'm not really a fan, they make watered down arena rock that isn't consistant with what I know they are capable of or the super proggy Roger Dean art. But that doesn't change the fact that they are all incredibly talented individuals who have produced brilliant music with three of the greatest bands ever (including one that is very high on this list), they are more talented instrumentalists than most people will ever be and most of the bands I actually do like, so for that I give them respect. It's funny that you call them overindulgent though, because I think they are waaaaaaaaaaaay too restrained. It's as if they all have electric shock collars that go off whenever they do something that is too out there or too complex for mainstream appeal and these are musicians who are at their best when doing exactly that. For album covers that are so surreal and alien looking, the actual music is pretty standard pop stuff. Still, I admire every single member of this band, even though I don't like the direction they took with Asia, a lot of people do and they still have a loyal following, so what the hell do I know? And Cartman likes them which is good enough for me. Quote:

For one, Carl Palmer can do whatever the f*ck he wants, maybe he's arrogant, but hey, if I was one of the best drummers in the world I would be too. I don't care if prog musicians are arrogant, they deserve to be. Compare that to all the arrogant dipsh*ts who aren't even talented: Nicky Wire, Brandon Flowers, Conor Oberst, the Gallagher brothers, way too many punk musicians to count.
I Believe in Father Christmas isn't even an ELP song. And do you realise how many bands you are discrediting by saying that not under any circumstances is a band credible if a member has a really sh*tty solo career? If you think a good musician can NEVER write a sh*tty song or two, then again, I have to point out your blatant inconsistency by reminding everyone that your favorite artist has written stuff like this. How can you possibly defend stuff like this? I really think Trout Mask Replica is overrated as all hell, it has some terrific songs but it's really hard to call it a musical masterpiece when a third of the tracks is the worst f*cking music possibly conceivable by human beings. I mean, is there really a worse song out there than Hobo Chang Ba? No, there isn't. Last edited by boo boo; 03-12-2010 at 01:00 PM. |

I have to agree with Boo here. I can't really see how those youtube vids prove ELP is a crap band. Carl Palmer playing drums for Asia in 2008 and a vid from Lake's holiday single? None of those are even ELP.
In a word, sigh. Furthermore, a lot of great bands from the early 70s turned to **** towards the end of the decade and into the 80s. Doesn't just go for that time period either, all bands have an expiry date. Similar to what Boo mentioned, if you're gonna write off every artist/band who made a bad song or did something unlikeable in a long career, you're gonna have to write off a lot of great music.

100 Greatest American Albums of All Time - 1 of 100 - Blender
Yet another testament to the rancidness of this magazine. It doesn't surprise me much that the people who think prog rock is one of the worst things to ever happen to music would add albums by Kid Rock and TLC. KISS and Eminem in the top 50? Aerosmith in the top 30? HOLE? Not even one album by The Beatles? Suck MY balls. Oh and great consistency guys, according to you the 37th worst band of all time made the 97th best album of all time. And good god, just take a f*cking look at the top ten, I'm totally speechless. Proof that not all opinions are created equal. |

i don't think Jamiroquai deserved to be in there, there's some great session work that goes into it. Especially the bass, some crackin' lines. However it can only ever be subjective with this sort of thing. I can think of many worse artists for the list in my opinion but I still think it's pretty good for what it is.
