Rather than critically analysing the whole list or picking out the bands/artists I think shouldn't be up there, I'll say that most of the list is decent. But I will say this:

I like Primus but I can understand why their polarising nature might land them a place in a list like this (even if I disagree). And that's why I can't understand why bands like Jamiroquai would be up there. Personally, I think they're overrated as their albums strike me as being rather homogeneous and inconsistent (that and I prefer Incognito). But one of the worst artists in music history... really? They're good at what they do and their basslines alone disqualify them from this list.

What I hate most about this list is the rationale.

"They have keyboard solos/fantasy lyrics".

Great insight guys.

Which artists do you feel shouldn't be on there?

boo boo 03-15-2010 05:24 AM

The only ones I really agree with are.
  • Insane Clown Posse
  • Michael Bolton
  • Kenny G
  • Starship
  • Vanilla Ice
  • Lee Greenwood
  • Latoya Jackson
  • Benzino
  • Pat Boone
  • Bad English
  • Color Me Badd
  • Crash Test Dummies
  • Richard Marx
  • 98 Degrees
  • Manowar
  • Master P

These are really the only ones I agree with or think are bad enough to be in this list.

Air Supply were really no worse than a lot of soft rock artists, Dan Fogelberg is just boring folk stuff, but he's better than Nick Drake.

Celine Dion, I don't like her music but I don't think she's AS bad as people say she is, only time she really bothered me was the AC/DC covers. At least she can actually sing, which is more than I can say for a lot of other women in the pop industry who also make much worse music. And c'mon, she had to bang René Angélil to get where she is, for that alone she deserves more than $80 million a year.

Vanilla Ice? Sure, but is he really worse than MC Hammer? I gotta say, no. And to be fair to Vanillla Ice, at least he has the Ninja Turtles song.

I don't think Creed should be on the list, they had one kinda decent album, and there is MUCH MUCH worse in the post grunge department. Nickelback are definitely way more deserving.

98 Degrees is one I wont argue with but, why exactly are they any worse than the other boy bands? Why are they the worst?

Anyway. Artists who would be on my list.
  • Foreigner
  • Nickelback
  • MC Hammer
  • GG Allin
  • Poison
  • Billy Ray Cyrus
  • Puddle of Mudd
  • Souja Boy
  • Merzbow
  • Bruce Willis/Steven Seagal/other actors turned musicians
  • Michael Angelo Batio
  • NOFX
  • Ba Ha Men
  • Sugar Ray
  • Too many contemporary Indie acts to count
  • Some super generic neo prog band with a big following on progarchives

I never get why people hate/really dislike Puddle of Mudd. I don't like them but I remember them having a couple of alright songs, never got the hate towards them. I wouldn't say they're top 50 bad.

Creed, yeah they're bad. But they're not THAT bad. Again I dunno why people really hate them.

If Vanilla Ice is on there, MC Hammer should be along side him.

See, I agree with all of these. Append Burzum, Milli Vanilli, Anal C*nt & Skrewdriver to that list and you've got yourself a list going.

boo boo 03-15-2010 07:31 AM

Oh dear god, I forgot all about Burzum.

Truly a terrible band.

Anyway, I retract my neo prog statement, a lot of it bores me but I don't really consider any of the big name bands to be particularly terrible, and as I said before I have to hold some degree of respect for any musicians I consider to be technically gifted. I just don't get why progarchives faps over this stuff so much. A lot of it isn't even what I'd call progressive.

Marillion are a good band, just very very very overrated in prog fan circles. I don't get why so many proggers think Fish is the definitive musical genius of the genre.

Arena are decent. Pendragon are alright. IQ are mind numbingly boring.

Frost* are proof that at least one super awesome band can come out of this movement though.

Speaking of progarchives. There's this one guy, Epignosis, he makes some pretty terrible stuff but his album has really high ratings on progarchives, and I'm pretty sure it's only because he's a fellow member.

Anyway. If Blender are so determined to hate on prog, they could at the very least add, like I dunno, Saga or something.

Careful what you say about him, he may find out and create an account on here.

boo boo 03-15-2010 10:57 AM

Yeah, I'm sure he googles himself all the time.

Actually, he's not bad compared to a lot of shredders especially those on YouTube who try to play his stuff without actually knowing how to play it.

Basically, a 50 worst artists list would only be truly accurate if you filled it up with all these people.

Something doesn't fit here............

scottsy 03-15-2010 02:42 PM

Vanilla Ice definitely deserved to be on the list... what a terrible statement in pop music he made... I wonder if he is rolling around in his clapped out 5.0 with the exhaust falling out and the rust starting to overcome the bodywork...
