Research Paper HELP! (Johnny Cash)

So I got my 11th grade research paper assignment, and I chose Johnny Cash as my person to research. The main question I have to answer is:

How has this person changed American History?

I have to actually answer the question, rather than write a 4-6 page biography.

I have a thesis statement. However, finding info and trying to say how 3 major topics about his life changed history is a bit tough.

These are the 3 topics I wish to discuss, in order from least to most important. (However, if anyone thinks it should be different, please explain.)
  1. 1. Johnny Cash's style of music conceived many other genres of music on the rise.
  2. 2. Johnny Cash's "Man in Black" image helped solidify his place as a writer and performer.
  3. 3. Johnny Cash's uprising, downfall, and climb back to musical power through drugs.

Please leave opinions, facts, links to articles, databases, etc. If so, cookies shall be made available.

Maybe
2. Johnny Cash's "Man in Black" image helped solidify his place as a writer and performer.
Guess so
3. Johnny Cash's uprising, downfall, and climb back to musical power through drugs.

Johnny Cash started the Revolutionary War, that's how.

That sound like a line from Casino, or Good Fellas.
So let me guess your occupation... are you a hitman?

he made a bunch of idiot hipsters start paying attention to something their grandparents used to care about.

as for the other 3 questions, i wonder how much actual knowledge about music you really have. maybe i need to emphasize an preceding adjective.

1 - his style of music conceived many other styles on the rise?

what? are you trying to say he was a trendsetter? that's not quite the case, influential yes, innovative, not so much.

2 - the man in black angle?

so you're going to attempt to explain that a man's wardrobe is what solidified his cultural significance as a writer and performer over the actual words and performances he's done? .... yeah...

3 - his climb back to power, through drugs?

screw it i'm bolding it. Cash's climb back to the top had very little to do with drugs and very lots to do with Rick Rubin. hell, Rubin had to get Soundgarden to record a countri-fied version of 'Rusty Cage' before Cash would agree to cover it, you really think he would have covered NIN a few years later if this hadn't proven successful?

jayfin3 03-08-2010 06:31 AM

yo this research paper is gonna suck.

Guys - obviously, this thread was made by someone young whose knowledge of music and music history is limited - which in turn explains why he or she is asking for our help. The original post was respectful and friendly. Still, I see most here have taken the opportunity to get an excercise in hostility and to stroke your own egos. Is this really the kind of forum you guys want? An elitist one where any sign of weakness like missing knowledge about a band or artist or being a newcomer means you get to act like a dick?

And to cadgod, if you'd read this following bit of information, you would have known we're not keen on this sort of threads :

Dos and donts

On musicbanter, you have to post according to the rules. Posting here is a privilege and not a right. Rule breaking may result in bans or gained infraction points. Infraction points can accumulate over time and if you get enough, they eventually result in a ban. Moderators can also see the infraction history of all users and the severity of punishment tends to increase with the amount of infractions previously recieved. Other than obeying the rules, there are a couple more things you should be aware of.

These are threads will be deleted on sight :
  • Any advertising whatsoever
  • What genre is this?
  • Please name my band
  • Hello i'm new here, here's a link to my blog
  • Hear my band
  • I don't know the name of this tune, download a sample of it here
  • Vs threads (Maybe left open at moderators discretion)
  • Help me with my project/study/survey/poll
Please don't start any of these threads. Also, new members should stick around long enough to become a part of our community before they start promoting stuff. Other than that, whenever you make a new thread, make an effort. For example, if you start a thread about a band, please add a little info on who they are or some kind of opinion about them and so on. Try and write a little more than just "anyone heard them?"!
