It's interesting that everyone lists years by albums, I suppose rock critics have got everyone to think that is how we look at music. I still think for most people though their memory is coloured by their favourite songs, whether they are from a big album or not.

Nostalgically would by 1984. In no particular order...

Howard Jones, Thompson Twins, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Wham!, The Kane Gang, Hazel Dean, OMD, Snowy White, China Crisis, Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, Fiction Factory, Style Council, Eurythmics, Kool and the Gang, Billy Joel, Van Halen, Bananarama, Sade, Culture Club, Queen, Phil Collins, Pointer Sisters, Blancmange, Denise Williams, Bronski Beat, Michael Jackson, Hazel Dean, Fiction Factory, Matthew Wilder, Madonna, Status Quo, Paul Young, Grandmaster Flash, Ollie and Jerry, Alison Moyet, OMD, Jeffrey Osborne, Spandau Ballet, Black Lace, Trevor Walters, David Bowie, Lionel Richie, Malcolm McClaren, Georgio Moroder and Phil Oakey, Paul McCartney, UB40, Sister Sledge, Chaka Khan, Billy Ocean, Chicago, Murray Head, Tears for Fears, Phil Fearon and Galaxy, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton, Matt Bianco, Tina Turner, Ultravox, Break Machine, Wang Chung, Tracey Ullman, Windjammer, Elton John, Animal Nightlife etc etc etc

But if it's based on recent years it could be 2010, but I haven't really lived with that music long enough.

1991. I wasn't alive, but you had Nevermind by Nirvana AND the Black Album by Metallica. Perfect year.
