It's a good descriptor of how Bono or whoever the song is about was feeling... quite evocative! Still wish Bono would write moe lines like that than "I'll just go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight".... ugh... so much lyrical writing ability but so many bad lines in recent years...
Still one of my favorite songs from the early eighties that eerily still rings true today... Short memory - Midnight Oil Conquistador of Mexico The Zulu and the Navaho The Belgians in the Congo Plantation in Virginia The Raj in British India The deadline in South Africa The story of El Salvador The silence of Hiroshima Destruction of Cambodia Short memory, must have a short memory The sight of hotels by the Nile The designated Hilton style With running water specially bought A smallish man Afghanistan A watch dog in a nervous land They're only there to lend a hand The friendly five a dusty smile Wake up in a sweat at dead of night And in the tents new rifles, hey, short memory

It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song
You can’t believe it You were always singing along It was so easy and the words so sweet You can’t remember You try to feel the beat Eet, eet, eet, eet Eet, eet, eet, eet You spent half of your life trying to fall behind You’re using your headphones to drown out your mind It was so easy, and the words so sweet You can’t remember You try to move your feet Eet, eet, eet, eet Eet, eet, eet, eet Someone’s deciding whether or not to steal He opens the window just to feel the chill He hears that outside a small boy just starting to cry ‘Cause it’s his turn but his brother won’t let him try It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song You can’t believe it You were always singing along It was so easy and the words so sweet You can’t remember You try to move your feet It was so easy and the words so sweet You can’t remember, you try to feel the beat Eet-Regina Spektor |

Elliott Smith - I Figured You Out
Seen you watching her every time she crosses the floor so wont you just go and talk to the one you really adore? I'm getting pretty used to being the one that you always ignore when somebody wants you I've seen it before. You're every kind of color there ain't nothing that you won't claim your ambition and promise and your addiction to fame. And everyone's got a dollar sign after their name and when somebody wants you you treat 'em just the same. So go on and pick up you don't care what poison you choose or what person you'll lose should've been me, yeah shouldn't it be? Crushing quiet crawls in through your window from someone who wants you but you'll never know but I'll pick up around you clear everything out leave you where I found you I figured you out. |
