"Bitches will be bitches as they smash in my chevy"
|
When you cried as a little baby
Mom and daddy let you cry Thought that that was the best way maybe To make you grow all strong inside Now that you're older You need someone's shoulder What about mine? paul westerberg |
pretty much all of "seventy times seven" by brand new. jesse lacey is basically saying "**** you i hope you die", but he says it so eloquently!
same with "me vs. maradona vs. elvis". it's about taking advantage of a drunk girl but again, eloquence. "seventy times seven" So is that what you call a getaway? Tell me what you got away with Cause I've seen more spine on jellyfish I've seen more guts on eleven-year-old kids Have another drink and drive yourself home I hope there's ice on all the roads And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt and again when your head goes through the windshield Is that what you call tact? You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back So let's end this call and end this conversation And is that what you call a getaway? Tell me what you got away with Cause you left the frays from the ties you severed when you say "best friends" means friends forever "me vs. maradona vs. elvis" With one or two I get used to the room We go slow when we first make our moves But five or six bring you out to the car Number nine with my head on the bar And it's sad, but true Out of cash and I.O.U's I got desperate desires and unadmirable plans My tongue will taste the gin and malicious intent Bring you back to the bar, get you out of the cold A sober straight face gets you out of your clothes And they're scared that we know all the crimes they'll commit Who they'll kiss before they get home I will lie awake Lie for fun and fake the way I hold you Then you'll fall for every empty word I say Barely conscious in the door where you stand Your eyes are fighting sleep while your mouth makes your demands You laugh at every word, trying hard to be cute I almost feel sorry for what I'm gonna do And your hair smells of smoke Who will cast the first stone? You can sin or spend the night all alone Brass buttons on your coat hold the cold In the shape of a heart that they cut out of stone You're using all your looks that you've thrown from the start If you let me have my way, I swear I'll tear you apart Cause it's all you can be You're a drunk and you're scared It's ladies night, all the girls drink for free I will lie awake Lie for fun and fake the way I hold you Then you'll fall for every empty word I say... you have to listen to them both to get the full effect. trust me. |
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter Never seem to find the time Plans that either come to nought Or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way The time is gone The song is over Thought I'd something more to say |
"Chocolate rain, made me cross the street the other day"
|
Blue yonder dreams and second hand shoes
You're so far gone that you live to close And it's too late to go home all alone You're the tar in that old cigar And the worn out cable on a cable car And you're too tired to admit you've got to chose I'm looking for a song to sing I'm looking for a friend to borrow I'm looking for my radio So I might find a heart to follow I've never been just longing for your loving I've never been just wearing down to nothing I've never been just looking for a reason So that maybe you'd be thinking of me - Hanson, A Song to Sing It's my favorite song...it's melancholy, and really poetic, IMO...love it. |
And you could have it all. My empire of dirt. I will let you down. I will make you hurt.
Johnny Cash - Hurt |

"Last night I heard Lepers flinch like birth defects"
(The Mars Volta, "Inertiatic ESP") "If I would, could you?" (Alice In Chains, "Would?") "We're all wounded in our respective ways" (Bayside, "The Walking Wounded") "If you really want to live, why not try and make yourself?" "If you let them make you, they'll make you Paper-Mache At a distance you're strong, until the wind comes Then you'll crumble and blow away. If you let him **** you there will be no foreplay. Rest assured, They'll screw you complete, Until your ass is blue and grey!" (Incubus, "Make Yourself") "I will walk away and say You ****ing disappoint me Maybe you're better off this way!" (A Perfect Circle, "Passive") |

Right now it has to be:
I wanted to put myself in your position to figure you out So I took a chainsaw to my skull and extracted my brain out -"Outrageous" - Bitter Ruin - We're Not Dancing |
"But oh no, no, I see them falling.
Let's all pray for rain, Let's all pray for rain. And all your children are reared by panic and fear. But what when all your fields are rotten, your waves of grain, amber waves of grain? And your word is yet done: Inbreed us 'till we're all the same." Two Gallants - Waves of Grain "Well I come from the old town baby, where all the kids are crazy." Two Gallants - Steady Rollin' "Goodnight my Anda-Lucia. Don't buy all the lies that they feed ya. And though you're heading slowly to some place I can't respect, I'll keep you in my collection of regrets." Two Gallants - Las Cruces Jail "**** man I just woke up to a land where killing is part of every day and every mind in this intelligent species is then blinded into the battlefield like it's natural for us to break instead of build" Enter Shikari - Fanfare for the Conscious Man "Is your love really Love? Is my love really Love? I think our love isn't Love, Unless it's Love to the end. Is your god really God? Is my god really God? I think our god isn't God, If he fits inside our heads." As Cities Burn - Clouds |
My Name is Death and the End is here
|
I've been loving the starkness and the cold reality of these lyrics lately, I dunno why but everytime i hear this song i get a kinda sobering chill, it's musically fairly barren and stark as well which really lets the lyrics filter through as well...
On Angel Street : the Church Sunday disappears into a fog Darkness invites us all inside To hide amongst the lamplight radial glow Shadow in the pool Winter in the wind A message in the fallen leaves Cruise down to the plaza in your Merc Never really know how or where to go Blow me down you're outside a bank on Angel Street I arrive but never leave You leave but never stay It kind of reminds me of the salad days I saw your brother during lunch I saw at once that he was lost and he was mad He had been standing in the rain to get some snow But the snow it couldn't fall The people all go home And he just kind of stood there helplessly You should change the message on your machine So sad, so strange baby to hear my name Makes me cry when you say we're not at home And the line it just goes dead And the trail it just goes cold I guess that story's told anyway |
far too many, but right now i'm digging this line:
it might be simple, it might be true I might be overwhelmed by you (L) |
I have so many, but my latest (as in TODAY) are......
"This is a cold war, do you know what you're fighting for?" -Janelle Monae, Cold War "Who gave you permission to rearrange me? Certainly not me." -Erykah Badu, Certainly |
One two three
She's a real left winger 'cause she been down south And held peasants in her arms She said "I could tell you a story that could make you cry" "What about you?" I said "Me too" "I could tell you a story that will make you cry" And she sighed "Ah" I said "I wanna be a singer like Lou Reed" "I like Lou Reed" she said sticking her tongue in my ear "Let's go, let's sit, let's talk" "Politics go so good with beer" "And while we're at it baby, why don't you tell me one of your biggest fears?" I said "Loosing my penis to a whore with disease" "Just kidding" I said "Losing my life to a whore with disease" She said "Excuse me please?" I said "Losing my life to a whore with disease" I said "Please... I'm a humble guy with a healthy desire" "Don't give me no **** because..." |
But it was only in my head because no one ever says what they really mean to say when there's so much at stake So I told her I loved her and she told me she loved me and I mostly believed her and she mostly believed me |
The single line I'm digging the most currently would have to be:
Why can't I see the sunspots in your eyes? mostly because of how it's delivered. |
I agree with the whole delivery of song lines notion you put forward there... the song I posted earlier today makes those songlines say so much more when you consider the delivery of the lyrics - in a cold, stark broken hearted fashion... it's truly the perfect song for uniting it's lyrical theme with it's musical delivery.

Those lines from Owl City's Saltwater room stuck out to me. |

"Everybody wanna be the next Everybody wanna be in step Everybody wanna **** Everybody want the consequence of playin' the fence Everybody's got **** luck Everybody wanna move to they own beat Everybody wanna make a dent Every girl is lookin' for the next best thing Every boy's in love with his girl's best friend Everybody hates me Everybody wanna fight We can't stand to wake up in the sun but can't sleep in the moonlight" P.O.S is Ruining My Life - P.O.S. In general P.O.S. is my favorite lyricist |
Jump into that water and see for yourself
Take a deep breath and hold it in, hold it in She's got a secret and she wants to tell But I made a promise to hold it in, hold it in Baby I'm in love and maybe it's not to tell Only thing that I can do is hold it in, hold it in I was told that I'm a man now and I'm not allowed to cry The only thing that I can do is hold it in, hold it in Hah! [Refrain] But life is "Oh my God, if I tell him, he'll tell her, and then she will know I like her!" Good grief! I don't think that I can take this heartbreak any longer I will not hold it in Hooo! Hooo! Hoooo! Well the couple with the baby and it's no secret why Neither one was able to hold it in, hold it in Kids in the streets, yeah they're all getting high Everybody's screaming "hold it in, hold it in!" Ha-hey! [Refrain] But life is "Oh my God, if I tell him, he'll tell her, and then she will know I like her!" Good grief! I don't think that I can take this heartbreak any longer I will not hold it in Hoooo! If there's a God, He's embarrassed and it's no secret why The only thing that He can do is hold it in, hold it in So I printed him a letter to be sent out to sea I'm looking for a bottle to hold it in, hold it in Ha! [Refrain] But life is "Oh my God, if I tell him, he'll tell her, and then she will know I like her!" Good grief! I don't think that I can take this heartbreak any longer I will not hold it in Hoooo! |

So many, too little time.
Not a well known one, but by Dire Straits: "If she was the Ace and I was the Jack and the cards were never seen, we could have been the King and the Queen". - Planet of New Orleans. Some great lyrics on all of the songs on the album On Every Street. |
"i wasn't 'poor', i was po', i couldn't afford the 'or'" -big l "lifestylez ov da poor & dangerous"
just one of many brilliant turns of phrase in the work of L |
"Directionless so plain to see, a loaded gun won't set you free."
Best. Lyric. Ever. |
"So the FBI they rewarded him, 'cause they like a guy who will stab a friend."

At the moment:
"Outside, the rain is tappin' on the leaves. To me, it sounds like they're applauding us the quiet love we've made." |
That is lovely actually^
When I shot him, I was so handsome It was the light, it was the angle The whole of O'malley's Bar is a brilliantly ghastly character portrait, but I think that line is probably the best. I've been getting more and more into Nick Cave recently. |
