Yeah, it's pretty nuts. You can tell he lives and breathes this stuff, especially with the way his girl there is thinking "**** me sideways, he's on his laptop again" throughout that whole video. He spends a lot of time perfecting this stuff, and his girl wants to end her life as a result. I've seen some of his live stuff on youtube, and it looks like you're in for a good ass time there.

One MC that's closely associate with Atmosphere who I think will be talked about in 25 years is Brother Ali. That man is simply one of the most powerful MC's I've ever heard, and his newest album Us, released about 6 months ago, Is pretty amazing. The man's just beginning to hit his stride. I'd say He's still got a pretty long and successful career ahead of him.

I'd love to see Aesop Rock release another album that blows None Shall Pass out of the water. I know that his last album has been pretty well receives by most fans, but I'd like to see him do something that's a little more true to his vision. I think his career and his future reputation depends on it.
I still think Atmosphere is there, same goes for Aesop Rock as well. Ant has consistently churned out beats for a decade+ that are very diverse. He's really made hits all over the spectrum utilizing piano riffs, bass heavy numbers, synthed out, live band orchestrated- anyway, point noted. Slug is a unique brand of MC. I hate to toss out the overplayed "real hip-hop" label, but he's right there. I can't think of a more interesting storyteller in recent memory. Also, I think their loyal following is wide enough for them to have staying power.

Aesop Rock has less of a following, but such a talented and unique delivery that he'll be remembered no doubt. Brother Ali is an interesting one. He has some well-received albums under his belt, but I'm not sure if I see him as one of the defining artists that people remember, at least not up to this point.

Well, I certainly would like to see that and hope this is the case... I'm just not sure- I guess I'd say the jury is out on them still. You do make a good point that mainstream success doesn't necessarily define what lasts down the road- but it doesn't necessarily hurt either.

I have a really hard time getting through the criticism for TBKs too, because I'm too biased and it all seems backwards. Three of the top reasons I've seen for people to feel 'meh' about them are: "guitar isn't that great", "singer's voice is annoying", and "albums have a few good tracks and a bunch of throwaway". On the contrary, for me their three most endearing qualities are Dan Auerbach's honey-drip-smoke-inhaled-whispy voice, the riffs, and the fact that they have six albums I will listen to front to back again and again and again. It's madness.

In terms of metal I'd say people will still talk about Nile in 25 years. Mastodon too, for sure, although if you ask me everything since Leviathan sucked. They just have a lot of press behind them. Lamb of God in the same way, although they can still write badass tunes. I think most of the bands we'll know in 25 years started in the 90's... The 00's are still too raw. We haven't heard the real debuts of bands that formed that decade, plus, most bands that stand the test of time stick around for a few decades and release a ton of albums, like Immolation for example (mid eighties, just released another album). Dying Fetus is the new Cannibal Corpse I think, they're truly incredible for only being a three piece and more recently formed. Children of Bodom and Death will still be pretty well known in 25 yrs. It's funny because metal is almost always around a decade or two in lag in terms of what bands are considered the pinnacle... Slayer and Metallica and Megadeth, all those are still reigning despite being big twenty years ago. So it's particularly interesting in that context.

That narrows things down a bit.

Nobody talks about Sean Paul anymore. Or Nelly. Or 50 Cent. Or Eminem. Nobody talks about Missy Elliot. People are stopping talking about Tiesto and Crazy Frog and starting talking about Skream and Benga. Pop music is dead.

I don't know if I own one of Nile's lesser albums or something but the one I have is pretty mediocre and not anything I'd imagine people discussing much 25 years from now.

I would say... radiohead will be talked about in 25 years, maybe muse *bard* the red hot chili peppers *semi-barf* and/or coldplay *barf barf* will still be talked about. some r & b hits and some pop stuff will still be talked about but most today's pop will die because of just how timely and shallow it is.

i can see certain bands like animal collective being talked about, but depends on the how the next couple of years go for them...

I think this discussion has less to do with how mediocre a band is and more to do with how much people talk about them and how much of a rep they've gained. Nile's been around for a long time and are kind of the most talked about of death metal bands these days even though they can't stop milking the Egypt thing.
