Fantano is an awful reviewer. He's like a low IQ Robert Christgau without the Africa fixation.

I think he's pretty good. Screw Robert Christgau, he's just annoying, but Fantano does a good job of relaying his experiences with an album without any shades of elitism or closed mindedness. That's about all I want in a reviewer. He's entertaining too.

But what is a critic if not a dude that just gives his opinions?

Rock was "dead" by 1977 when the concept of what it meant to be in a rock band had long splintered into all sorts of different kinds of music under a very loose umbrella

to this day there is still small innovations happening within the subgenres, each band's iteration of a style adding small changes to the sound

the problem is sitting around waiting for "the next thing in Rock" because that's mostly marketing with true innovation being a gradual process
I say 87 but I get your drift. This guy’s definition of dead and rock is different from mine though. He thinks rock music was still alive because Creed was selling records. He also thinks bands can’t experiment unless there’s nothing to lose. That’s stupid.

I also think when you just say rock it’s more limiting than saying rock’n’roll. Hip
Hop witch house vapor wave etc are all sub genres of rock’n’roll. Ambient drone grown from a neoclassical tradition has the potential to develop into the first popular genre outside the rock’n’roll umbrella since Chuck Berry.

A music writer that is insightful enough to guide our listening habits.

I'm sorry you think ambient drone is going to become popular?

By “potential to develop” I meant its core components could inspire a genre of popular music rooted in neoclassical instead of Chuck Berry which would be huge landscape shift in western music. Mainstream means a new generation will grow up on it.

And while we’re being speculative the future of music is AI and the human artists will be the system programmers whose machines will continue pumping out new things long after they’re dead and gone.

It won’t be long until even an experienced conductor will be unable to tell if composition created by AI designed to mimic Bach is actually composed by Bach or a computer. But it could also be 50% Bach 25% Coltrane 25% Mark E Smith. And AI can teach itself so overtime it’s impossible to predict what it’ll sound like.

The rapper Cardi B is by far one of the worst rap artists in modern history. Not only she has ZERO talent with her uttering the "n-word" in one of her songs, but some of her music videos contain full frontal nudity that is NSFW! I took a glimpse on one music video where two women were showing their "private parts" and it was so disgusting to look at. I totally hate modern rap music, including Cardi B's! I couldn't tolerate rap music anymore. It should suffer through a decline, just like how disco music faded out around the start of the early 80's!

Rap music, and Cardi B are a bad influence to children. They carry no positive message. It's all about drugs, sex, and violence. That's the reason I enjoy old school music, not this type of crap they are putting out now.

There's a female artist, while not perfect, has a far better talent and made good songs than this Cardi B fool. She started releasing albums at 16, and while she unfortunately faded out after several new albums flopped, still performs at several venues across the country mostly performing her hit disco and dance singles from her heyday. I enjoyed listening to her songs almost every day,(well, except for that one song where towards the end, sounded like a "choo-choo" train). Also, modern artists like Bruno Mars, Portugal The Man, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Adele, and Justin Timberlake are all my favorites.
