There are pretty much 50 million of those videos, cause I guess the uploaders know a sea of rockists and snobs will click on it to bitch about how music was so much better in the ol' days, and a rival sea of gays and 12-year-old girls will descend upon them with all the poorly worded fury of a Justin Bieber concert. That's what I assume at least with all these dime-a-dozen videos.

except the music being made now is just as creative if not more creative than most made before it. we live in a time where the ability to make your music available to mass numbers of people is easier than ever.

whether you guys like it or not it is happening and it's unlike anything ever before. the internet is the best thing to ever happen to the music industry in terms of giving us the listeners new and unique music.

I don't think that really goes against what elphenor was saying. People are still making creative music, but that doesn't mean that everyone who would have ended up making creative music out of boredom and lack of options is making creative music today. People aren't going out and starting bands together as often as they would have (and don't even talk to me about internet collab because it is so so so different from doing it face to face), and that is slowly choking out the locality of music.

I'll stop before I repeat myself too much.

so i guess we're just talking in random opinions based on personal experience rather than any sort of facts here?

it's easier now to put out music than ever before. even if there are less people doing these things (which i dunno how you can just claim there are) there are more people getting their music out there onto platforms that can be heard by anyone with internet access.

This is really the only point I'm trying to make. And it's more of a "per capita" thing than a straight up comparison like 10 creative bands in 75 and 9 creative creative bands in 2017. The internet democratized a lot more than music, and that's played a role in limiting the percentage of people pursuing more music. Does that make sense?

Pretty much. I mean, I feel bad for artists who want to make a living making music, but the fact that I can be completely blown away by a bedroom artist versus what's on the radio is basically the best thing ever.

100% agreed. The best artists I've been exposed to over the last 10 years has been 100% via word of mouth on forums, YouTube vids, and the internet in general. I don't even listen to the radio or any mainstream stuff anymore.

That being said, I've heard a literall ton of complete and utter ****e in that same period of time.

When I was in HS maybe 1-2% of the students were rocking on instruments in bands.

These days I'd wager that 20% of kids are composing and recording because it's so easy and cheap to do now.

But as the saying goes: Sometimes less is more.
