I think it has more to do with shifts in what types of music is being made than the overall quality of music. For example, those of us who are singing the praises of the early 90s are probably people who are more inclined to enjoy alternative rock, and that genre was especially at its peak during that time...

I'm of the opinion that "alternative" rock was in a horrible watered-down abyss of commercialization during the early 90s and as a result I much prefer the 80s. But nevertheless, as a music fan, I recognize that one single form is not the end all be all of music so I appreciate the fact that other forms of music, which were truly excellent, existed in the 90s.

While a lot of alternative rock was becoming overly commercialized in the early 90s, surely you can admit that there was also plenty of great, not overly commercialized indie rock being released at the same time?

Sure, but it wasn't stuff like Soundgarden and Blind Melon.

If anyone else comes back here and talks about how what was at the top of the charts was the best music of that particular time, I'm gonna scream. Obviously, none of you will hear it...but just know it will be done.

Clearly the early 90s were the best era because Color Me Bad and Marky Mark were at the top of the charts.
