But in all seriousness, Esperanza Spalding is a pretty sick bassist:

I take offense to this comment.

Tina Weymouth? Carol Kaye? Kira Roessler?

I still consider Kim Deal a solid bassist even if you don't, I don't think Kim Gordon is bad either, her playing isn't very audible until later records but I think she's better than you give her credit for.

Oh yeah well irregaurdless of what you may say about them, I don't think I've ever seen a female bass player I didn't develope some kind of crush for. There's a certain je ne sais quoi about seeing a female holding a bass and hearing them pumping out a big round bottom end of the bassy notes of the sonic register penatrating through the cacophany of hard rock guitars and the banging from the drum skins. I think female bass players are importantly talented, I don't know dude, no complaints from me.

It was a joke boobs. Not exactly that difficult to recognize.

For the record Kira Roessler is a great bassist, but she's one of the few, and for every Roessler there's ten Deals, Gordons, and D'Arcy Wretzkys to take their place alongside whatever songwriter they fucked to get on the band in the first place.

So that line of reasoning doesn't make too much sense to me, just because you can think of 30 females bass players that you think don't cut it, I don't think you can make a blanket statement for women as a whole. You know the same thing could be said about Heavy Metal guitar players, for every one Dime Bag Darrel you can find ten lousy Heavy Metal guitar players because they are a dime a dozen.

Anybody else notice that heavy metal gutiar players make fantastic guitarist?

Yeah me neither.

The flip side of the coin is for every ten Deals, Gordons, and D'Arcy Wretzkys there is one Nikki Monniger, Freddy Feedback, Tina Weymouth & cetra.
