But seriously I would think "Once In A Lifetime" - Talking Heads would be perfect.

Default Funeral Playlist

This is something I've been tossing around my head for awhile...

What would you want played at your funeral? Would you want your musical taste represented, or a certain mood set, lyrical content, or anything of the sort? Whether it be individual songs, entire albums, music videos, concerts, etc..

I would want my taste in music to show, regardless of mood, so mine would go something like this:

Some key tracks from my favorite albums..
  • Walk On - Neil Young
  • Lost in the Supermarket - The Clash
  • From the Morning - Nick Drake
  • Time Has Told Me - Nick Drake
  • Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
  • Boy With a Coin - Iron & Wine
  • I Am Music - Common
  • Wake Up - Arcade Fire
  • Wrote a Song for Everyone - Creedence Clearwater Revival
  • Everything Hits at Once - Spoon
  • This Book is a Movie - Spoon
  • Waitin' for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago - ZZ Top
  • Aerials - System of a Down

KEY albums..
  • The La's - The La's
  • The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle - Bruce Springsteen
  • Animals - Pink Floyd
  • Cupid and Psyche 85 - Scritti Politti
  • Stardust - Willie Nelson
  • #1 Record - Big Star
  • Madvillainy - Madvillain
  • Brothers - The Black Keys
  • Mescalito - Ryan Bingham
  • Logic Will Break Your Heart - The Stills
  • The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Bob Dylan Live 1966, The Royal Albert Hall Concert - Bob Dylan
  • Put the O Back in Country - Shooter Jennings
  • Paul's Boutique - Beastie Boys
  • Emergency & I - The Dismemberment Plan
  • Live at the Star Club, Hamburg - Jerry Lee Lewis
  • This Time - Dwight Yoakam

And the music video for We Used to Wait - Arcade Fire.

Well, that is just a sampling of what would be ideal. Let's here your ideas!

My funeral is probably going to be about 6 hours long thanks to my love of stupidly-long prog epics.

I'd have to have the following songs for sure:

- Ommadawn (Pt.1 excerpt)- Mike Oldfield
- 2112:The Temples of Syrinx (Intro and the second bit)- Rush
- In The Wake of Poseidon- King Crimson
- Tubular Bells (both parts!)- Mike Oldfield
- Lessons In Love/Love Games/Heathrow- Level 42
- Chain Lightning- Rush
- I've Seen All Good People- Yes (Keys To Ascension live version).
- This Charming Man- The Smiths
- West Side Story- The Buddy Rich Big Band
- Matty Groves- The Fairport Convention
- I Lost My Head- Gentle Giant
- Radioactivity (German version)- Kraftwerk
- I'll Haunt You- Seth Lakeman (for some comic value as much as anything).
- The Wall- Pink Floyd
- Kashmir- Led Zeppelin
- Perfect Kiss- New Order (10min version)

I could list loads of songs but these are the ones that most come to mind. I want my wide tastes in music to come through at my funeral.

Weird. I've never been to a funeral where there was music. Have I been missing out on awesome funerals?
