It's more than possible. I imagine in 10-15 years that I'll have that many, so there must be a few people here who've been listening to music for 25-30 years.

Is it expressly unnecessary?

As someone who just recently passed 80K, I haven't listened to everything I have (yet), but I have listened to most of it. And I like having a WIDE variety at my fingertips--being able to listen to whatever I want should the occasion come up, or being surprised by something cool I find in a random shuffle that I forgot I had, etc.

I suppose it's a personal preference thing.

When you consider just how many albums have come out in the last 60 odd years 100,000 songs is just a drop in the ocean.

It's not really that excessive. Music-listening is both a personal experience and one of pure adventure. In my experience, the people with the most interesting taste are those who play both the rolling stone and the still one - they go all over the map, collecting music from various styles, time frames, subcultures, but they are always to make deep connections with what they find, and they don't completely abandon their past.

100,000 would just take a little while. Nothing wrong with it particularly, though.

Currently have 60GB of music. Own roughly 100 physical CDs.

Well of course there are more than a 100,000. But in a personal collection? It just seems like a lot.

My external drive decided it no longer wanted to work, so I only have what's in my iTunes...it was rather time consuming deleting all of the songs which no longer worked as they were locked away on a non-functioning POS external. :/

I wound up just completely clearing my iTunes library and adding the music I had on my actual computer. About 20k songs.
