Size is such a suggestive terminology. But I'd have to say it's kind of large.
I'll vote for the 30,000 - 34,999.

what's the point? I take pride in having painstakingly retrieved all the album artwork, proper song/album names, years, genres, and quality levels for all 100 gigs of my library. I've also listened to a large majority of it. 100,000 songs is just too much, there has too be a giant chunk of stuff you haven't ever and will never listen to.

I have 100,000+ songs on my hard drive, which has 2 terabytes of storage space. It's really hard for me to accurately count the number because I have a large number of duplicate files some of which are remixed versions of old songs & albums that I already own while others are useless duplicates that I refuse to delete because of my hoarding mentality. I have 3 dozen boxes of every album and compact disk I've purchased, neatly stored away in the corner of my basement. I've already transfered most of those tangible music products into MP3 files but I can't bear the thought of parting with all of those musical relics I've accumulated over the years, even as the boxes of vinyl and compact disc albums sit unused and occupy precious storage space in my basement. I have a real hoarder's mentality about music & I wish I could change that.
About 20,000 of those 100,000 MP3 files on my hard drive are leased downloads from Zune which allows unlimited downloads and synching of their music for $15.99. You download and synch the Zune files like any other MP3 file the only difference is that Zune organizes the subscription music in a separate file which is removed from your computer if you cancel your Zune music service. 90% of my subscription music are songs that I wouldn't purchase & if I like the song I can own the song permanently by paying the 89 cent retail price that is generally the going price to download a single song for purchase. The advent of the digital age has made the single the primary currency of the musical marketplace & unfortunately sales of the album unit have declined as a result. I don't think online piracy is the primary cause of the music industry's retail sales decline rather it's the rise of the single tune purchasing by music buyers who cherry pick 2 or 3 songs from an album release purchase selected album cuts, instead of paying $9.99 for the entire album. It's a big victory for the consumer who used to pay $16.99 for a compact disc that had 75% filler content. It's amazing how much music you can store on a it's amazing how many MP3 files you can store on 2 terabytes of hard drive space. I've only used 450 gigabytes of hard drive space to store 100,000 MP3 files which is only about 25% of my total storage capacity. I have two Zune music players one with a 120 gigabyte storage capacity & another with an 80 gigabyte storage capacity. I really don't use the 80 gig Zune player except for a backup player because the 120 gig Zune player more than meets my portable music needs. My only wish is that some audioware firm would develop a pair of ear-pod headphones that have the same digital fidelity as my full sized Sennheiser HD 25-1-II studio headphones. |
