Wow, 100, 000 would be like a dream library. How familiar are you with your music? I have troubles at times keeping up with my collection--that is, sometimes I'll hear a song I absolutely love, but I'll forget about it and might not hear it again for months.

I'm especially surprised that you're younger than me, I mean, I don't know how many albums I have, but I guess it's around 600. I have about 14,500 songs and it's taken me a lifetime to get up to that!

I have about 30ish GB with just under 4800 songs.

I just saw "what is the size of your..." in the title.
I could've sworn it was going to be "p3n0r" after that.

I really don't have that much music. Like, 400 songs in my iTunes, and I really haven't counted CDs. They're mostly my dad's though, and I only have maybe 5 which are completely my own.
But I don't really care. I can get new music whenever I want via Youtube, and I go some live shows... I'd say that I'm not doing bad.

And I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you're quite young, so it's perfectly normal to have a small collection at that point.

last i checked my digital collection was 80GB+ that was a year or so ago.

before the yard sale, my CD collection was approaching 1,000.

got a few dozen vinyl too.

Digital
As of right now: 65,624 songs / 5354 albums / 2327 artists
It's about 352GB, which I keep on a dedicated external 1TB drive

Physical
I haven't counted in some time, but I'd estimate about 700 official CDs, 400 LPs and maybe a couple hundred bootlegs?

I had about 30 gigs, then the external harddrive I was storing it on died out.

I started rebuilding my music collection on my desktop computer, got to maybe 15 gigs, then the motherboard fried.

Now I have about 20 gigs on a shiny new computer.

I estimate that if it wasn't for every collection I try to build up, I would have roughly 50 gigs. Right now I'm getting all of the old albums that I lost back, and starting to get some new music. The only problem is I can't remember all the bands I listened too... I'm bad with names. The positive effect is that while getting all of my old music back I revisited a lot of old bands that sort of got buried amongst the new stuff.

I have about 40 CD's, and bunch of old vinyl albums lying around. My dad had a small amount, and he got a bunch from a friend who didn't want them anymore.

well i've gone and upgraded most of my collection to flac. it's now over 500gb, and it's growing bigger every day.the only stuff left in mp3 is rare singles or obscure bands that i can't find flac rips of.

i hope to god my drive doesn't crash before i get a chance to buy a backup!

Guybrush 04-13-2010 05:08 AM

^You reripped/redownloaded your whole collection? Wow, that must've taken some time!

noise 04-13-2010 05:15 AM

haha yeah, well it's taking a lot more time to re-tag everything! luckily with MP3tag i can copy/past tags from the mp3 album to the flac album, then all i have to do is re-calculate replay gain values and it's all set to go.

i have fast internet and what.cd recently had a 5-day freeleech marathon so i just left my computer rolling and grabbed nearly 1000 albums ;)

i know that flac is overkill, but i have the net speed, the bandwidth, and the drive space, so i figured - why not?
