I prefer CD's, or at least I use them the most. I like looking at album art and holding something tangible. After this is Vinyl, but I don't have a lot of it. The bands I'm really passionate about don't really put out a lot of vinyl. I have some vinyl, but no record player at this current moment. Working on that situation...
Despite the fact that vinyl isn't as acessible to me, I still like it better than digital. I don't like digital, and I only download when it's the only option. |

Pshh.. your casettes have nothing on my 8-tracks.
But anyway, I used to dig CD's when they became prolific, but with the advent of digital and how it has become so convenient above all else, I go with that. For instance, if I acquire a few new albums and want to listen in my car, I don't have to transfer to an MP3 player and do the crap converting and all that... I just throw the mp3's on my thumb drive and plug it into my USB port on my car stereo. It's so much easier than when you had to burn CD's... and lots of them. I don't even want to go into cassettes... Making copies of cassettes was retarded. I'm embarrassed to have had to do that. ever. |

If I had to pick just one I'd go with vinyl. But I use digital for the convenience factor.

I'm kind of a cassette fan myself: it was fun to tear out the film stuff and wrap my body up like a mummy when I was little.

I have to go with CD's as well. I too love to be able to see the art work, and read the liner notes. Also with CD's I can rip them right when I get them so I have digital copies of everything as well.
Yes they are prone to scratches but about the only time they are out of the case is for the 5 minutes after I get them that it takes to rip them. Then I just put it on my Ipod and I use that in my car.

oh, definitely the magnetic wire recorder. sure, this has been around since the 1800's and stuff, but it's just WAY better, ya know?
actually i like CDs for the album artwork. 'tis pretty but i am fond of digital, too. Last edited by Dayvan Cowboy; 07-28-2010 at 11:00 AM. |

I'm more of a vinyl fan, I think it sounds closer to the original recording than CD's or MP3's which are somewhat shallow.

I picked CD's for the happy-medium factor. They still satisfy the 'product-in-hand' need, (including the album artwork/packaging pluses..), but can also be easily converted to a digital, convenient format as well.
Eventually, I'm going to go back and start working on my vinyl collection again, as I still prefer this sound over all else. While not terribly convenient, or cheap, I can't think of anything better than a good turntable system, good pair of headphones, and some time to listen to stuff! ..oh..and maybe a pint or two to sip while I'm listening...that would be better still, lol!! |
