I'd argue that Incubus ventured close to it with their old stuff. When my brother heard part of this, he asked me if it was RHCP

Love Fungus Amongus and S.C.I.E.N.C.E.!

Maybe Mother's Milk RHCP, but Incubus had a heavier, more metal-influenced sound. It was more like they were trying to combine RHCP, Mr. Bungle, and Primus all into one band...
