I've never heard them say they hate Nirvana.

I'm getting the impression a lot of Americans here seem to think Britpop was anti American.
It wasn't anything like that. The thinking was more 'we've hardly had any great bands since the mid 80s and there's fuck all coming out of the US right now other than third rate grunge bands, we may as well take advantage of that to promote what we have here'.

And that's what happened, and that's why grunge died over here the moment Cobain popped his clogs.

Well I do recall Albarn saying that he wished he killed Cobain personally.

Modest hits, not a lot of lasting popularity like Song 2 had, I never hear them on the radio, but Song 2 is very much a modern rock/alt rock radio staple now.
