Muse don't make it.
Next up from Bulldog Leftfield ![]() It's with the sense of smug self-satisfaction that comes from nominating an artiste through to the induction stage that I give you lucky people my second nomination, a duo that the (almost as awesome) Cystal Method's Scott Kirkland dubbed 'the best electronic band, period!'. So, why the nomination? In my eyes, there are two boxes you need to tick before trying to get someone into the Hall Of Fame here. 1 - Influence. Leftfield (aka Neil Barnes and Paul Daley) have had a huge influence on electronica since their debut LP Leftism was released in 1995. For a start, they were pioneers in IDM and progressive house, being not only among the first artists to fuse dub and reggae with house music, but also among the first to use live guest vocalists (carrying that particular torch with the Chemical Brothers and Underworld). All in all, they've got the influence box well and truly ticked. 2 - Quality. I think they're awesome, so they've got that covered. It's true that they've only got three albums, one of which is a remix album, but both of the others are certainly among the best electronica albums you could wish to lay your hands on. Their 1997 debut, Leftism, is commonly regarded as the classic, and is a very very good album (if a tiny bit dated) but the 1999 followup, Rhythm and Stealth, would be my personal favourite - it features a much sharper, less-chilled techno edge. I think it'd be cool if Leftfield got in because, as I type this, I don't see any electronica in the HOF, and it'd look good for the forum if we got a bit of musical diversity in there. Of course, it's up to you. Check out the vids below, ask me for an album link, whatever it takes! [/QUOTE] |
