Not to nitpick though. If TMV doesn't get in I can understand completely.
Mars Volta have taken a traditional 70's Prog rock/ fusion template and made it heavier. No matter how good they are musically they are still a mish mash of many artists. The whole point of a HOF is to have artists that have broken the mould or who were one of the originals in the scene etc. Mars Volta are not that for me. I consider a band such as Kayo dot to be far more deserving but i know that they wouldn't get in so I don't worry about it

Beck? Out of potential people to say that Tom Waits has influenced that's a strange choice. What about Sparklehorse or Modest Mouse or Man Man? What about basically every quirky roots-based indie band of the past decade or so?

I completely ignored influence on this one.

^That's what I'm talking about. The Mars Volta are well-liked here and are a staple of the "collective Musicbanter music library" if you will, and that's why I think they should be in the hall of fame.

I know I havent voted yet but I'm re-listening to The Mars Volta before I do, its been a while. I used to really like them at least. I would consider influence when making my choices but I wouldnt say it was very important, not for this site anyway.

Why me eh? Quite a few didn't vote for Pink Floyd (my nom) I didn't care. It's all about choice and i let it go. I like mars Volta but I don't think they deserve it as would most of you say with my choices of John Martyn, Tangerine Dream etc if I put them forward. damn Im in a bad mood. Ignore me.

Some people didn't vote for The Clash out of sheer distaste for their music, but if they want that to be their standard, then so be it.

I havent voted for many of the bands in this thread. I think some of them were done before I joined and for a while this thread went un-noticed by me so I dont know the reasons behind some of the artists getting in or not getting in. The reason I think this thread is a good idea though is we can judge bands like Floyd, Sabbath, Zeppelin, The Beatles etc by the same criteria as bands like The Mars Volta. If a bands influence on what came after them is gonna be the deciding factor on whether people vote yes or no then I can't really see the point in going too far either way because Volta wouldnt stand a chance at all and the Zeppelin's and the Sabbaths etc would be no brainers wouldnt they, regardless of whether you actually like them or not?

I love TMV but their debut came out in 2003, it's too soon.
