I was watching the Monterey Pop Festival and one of the performers (either Michelle Phillips or Pete Townsend - I forget) said something like "when Jimi came on stage played, his music sounded like was from outer space." I didn't know what she meant at the time, they heard it for the first time and compared to the music at the time, I thought it was another way of saying his playing was "out of this world" some people say desserts they like is ("cordon bleu") "out of this world" - I thought they were just complimenting him. But after learning the he like to read paperback Sci Fi novels, and the example of the songs that were mentioned that the writer felt were influenced by his love for Sci Fi, I reconsidered what she said. So when Colby said "...seems it's not of this world." I agreed, I felt Jimi conscientiously made an effort to play music that he imagine to be from "not of this world" the same as a band today would play Space Rock. I didn't know if applying Space Rock to Jimi Hendrix would be a retronym, or a debatable issue for 90's Space Rock fans so I didn't mention it.

I get what you were gettin at now though. For years my dad was convinced that the song Purple Haze was written about drugs. Fact being that after watching the documentury it was from a dream that he had. I just happened to be visiting that day when it came on and he just happened to be interested enough to watch some of it with me. Whenever that part came on he kind of just went.."hmm" and that was all. I never said said anything about it. Point being Hendrix is still such a mystery really to a lot of people as far as who he was and comes from. Myself included in that...where concepts from songs came from and what was he like away from music. Theres still a lot more id like to know but its hard to dig up information like that about Hendrix and know the source is a credible and accurate. I know some attempts were made at doing a movie about him but his sister denied the attempts since she's left in control of his estates. Saying that she doesnt want his imaged tarnished with drugs,women, and all the other things that every rock star does or did...lol.

Every once in a while, VH1Classics plays a movie about “Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo
Child” (Bootsy Collins voices Hendrix's postcards/letters to his father.) And then they'll play a movie about The Monkees. Mike Nesmith was so jazz'd to be touring with Jimi thinking it would make his band taken more serious by Rock fans, then Jimi gets boo'd - the plans of mice and men. I like the two perspectives on the same event, the two movies intersect at that point.
