I vote hell yes.

Public Enemy do political and social commentary songs, when they do songs about "thug life" it's from a much more cynical point of view than gangsta rap. |

Easy yes, not one of my favourite rap groups, but I still give their albums a fair number of spins. Most importantly they moved rap in a direction away from Run DMC style that is really not my thing, and their sampling was pretty damn innovative and influential as well.

Public Enemy are through, next up from Brad Stengel...
Neutral Milk Hotel Id like to nominate Neutral Milk Hotel. The album "In The Aeroplane Over the Sea" has become one of the most revered albums of the 90's in the last 10 years, mostly through word of mouth, which speaks volumes. Their unique blend of Folk/punk/noise/and odd instrumentation provide an extremely unique aural experience, especially when combined with Mangums dylanesque dream-like yet ferociously emotional lyrics. Theyve influenced the likes of The Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, The Decemberists, and pretty much every other indie-folk artist of the last 5 years. I think they'd make a great addition to the MB hall of fame. |

This is a big no for me, I heard it and I actually found it quite unlistenable.
