Being a huge fan of hip-hop. I still don't enjoy the music, because a lot of it missing the elements that make hip-hop/rap good to me. The lyrics are far less groundbreaking then you seem to say, the beats were passable, and though I agree with the cultural/socialoagical influence, I just think they fail musically.

So you think they had sociological impact but their lyrics weren't groundbreaking?

The only thing rap has going for it is lyrics. It doesn't take much talent at all to come up with a clapping/base beat, which is what alot of rap is made up of, so there isn't much song writing talent involved. And hardly any of them ever play instruments, which is probably even lamer. So basically, the only redeeming quality I can theoretically see coming from rap music would be the lyrics, and sadly, a large percentage of rap music has the same old generic lyrics such as "I'm a playa, I get bitches, ect, ect, ect..." Now don't think that I'm including PE in this, for I'm sure that they MUST be more insightful than the rest to get so much praise.

I used to listen to it all the time a couple years back... but then I was converted. Eminem had some good lyrics, for instance.

I personally didn't find them groundbreaking, but it obviously impacted rap a genre.

That still doesn't answer my question. How much have you heard and who have you heard?

1. I wasn't talking to you.
2. Why? I've given my reasons for why they were groundbreaking, now it's your turn.
