How about Rush? Aren't they one of the greats of progressive rock? They seem like a group with enough universal appeal (at least in North America) to have a shot.

Well they're more popular for sure, but I don't think they are more worthy than Yes. Since Yes was a lost cause, getting KC in should be the next priority for us proggies.

In all fairness it was pretty close, only 5 votes off.

Also Jeff Buckley hasn't been nominated yet, dunno where you got that from.

There seems to be a very high degree of post elitism here on Music Banter. This isn't an uncommon phenomena (in fact I'm probably guilty of the same thing on boards where I have had a longer presence than here), but it creates a very unpleasant atmosphere and might scare away new members (but perhaps that's what you want).

Do you mean this in regards to the voting or overall?

I don't agree Monkey, I joined a year ago and thought the same thing at first, but give it time and you'll see everyone here is fairly open-minded. The Hall-of-Fame should be an elitist thread. After all if you have not been here for a long time, and\or are not planing on staying why would you care about the hall-of-fame.

Best advice I can give any new members, take the time to get to a know a few people here first and don't jump into subjective arguments until people know you a little better and have a feel for where you're coming from.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

If you listen to good music than you won't have to get into many arguments...

I've only noticed it in this thread so far.

I see where you're coming from, but I think in the long run the community would benefit from letting "newbies" participate in forum events such as this one, as it strengthens the feelings of welcome as well as add new flavours of musical interest to the mix. But that's just my opinion.

What's the point of having a discussion board if everyone agrees about everything?

Yes are the first artist not to be nominated into the Hall of Fame, doesn't mean that they can't ever get in though so maybe one day in the future?

Neeeext from Proggyman

King Crimson

While Pink Floyd is certainly the most popular Prog band, King Crimson is just as certainly the most popular band with Progheads. They're also arguably the most innovative band of the modern rock era, consistently reinventing themselves with just one constant member, but never settling for the current trend, never sacrificing artistic integrity for a more popular LP. Not to mention they've had more incredibly talented musicians than any other Rock band I know of. Robert Fripp is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Bruford one of the greatest drummers. They're very popular here and certainly deserve a shot at the hall of fame.

This is the whole ethos of the Hall of fame. I would love to put John Martyn or Fela Kuti in there but I know they would'nt stand a chance. One artist out of four has'nt made it and people are up in arms. This is a democracy and if people don't think Yes are good enough, then take it on the chin people. It does'nt mean that they are immediately hated. I like Yes so does Inuzuka Skysword and Lespaul43. We just did'nt think that they merit a place and for the umpteenth time I voted no for Zep and Smith. For me the hall of fame is the creme de la creme.
