Yes are a very polarizing figure in rock music, one of the most I'd say, they have a lot of haters, which I understand, people consider them the biggest representives of prog, which I don't think it's even arguble that it's the most controversial genre of rock music there is, and thus prog haters direct most of their hate towards Yes (and ELP), again I perfectly understand the dislike for them. But people here are calling them insigificant, and that's just crazy wrong.
I know very little about the 'history' of prog blah blah blah, but what makes Yes more important than Genesis or Jethro Tull?

I personally think Yes is more important than Genesis by far, and maybe on the same level as Jethro Tull.

Well I wouldn't say they are way more important than them, I'd say KC are slightly more important than Yes, because they were considered the original leaders of the movement. But from say 71 to 73 Yes were the most popular of the prog bands, and they were largely responsable for pushing prog into the mainstream, though Jethro Tull were quite big too, they gained mainstream success a good while before Genesis, ELP and Rush ever did, and Floyd weren't super popular yet, and for a while Yes were even more popular than them. For the record I would also like to see Genesis and KC here too, and obviously Pink Floyd deserve to be in. I think those 4 should at least be the prog representitives in the hall of fame.

I think KC, PF and Radiohead will be the Prog reppers.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

Well, Radiohead's status as a "prog" band is a very controversial one.
