After reading back a few pages I can see a difference of opinion about whose votes count and even who should be allowed to vote period. If this was a special thread for Elite members only, then that should have been the outline from the very start. I think PMO has struck a good balance handling this thread so far.(Did anybody figure out what happened to the Led Zepp vote count?...just curious some people were very angry and then nothing was said about it.) I see Boo Boo is angry that some newcomers are voting without giving Yes a chance and I understand his passion for a band he really likes, but this is supposed to be for fun, certainly nothing to get angry about. No matter the outcome I still like Yes and will enjoy their unique brand of prog rock for many years to come.
If the system is changed and only posters with 500+ are allowed to decide the final MBHOF membership, then I wouldn't have participated in the first place. For the record, I abstained from voting for both Joy Division and Elliot Smith because I don't know them well enough to make a yes or no decision, and I didn't have the time to catch up. I will only vote on bands I am familiar with, or have been introduced to by MB members. So is this an Elite MB Members Only poll, or is it for all MB members to participate in up to the final selection? |

People are going to get annoyed naturally when noobs come in and vote and then never come back again but this was always going to happen, the way i see it is they're representing the proportion that come on here for a bit but don't stay. Like it or lump it, they're still a part of this place. |

One thing is for certain definitive rules must be established and outlined within the next week or so. We've certainly seen the up and down sides of having everyone vote.
Right now I would say the best rules would be. Strict Limit 250-500 posts to suggest a band to Nominate. Anyone can vote in the preliminaries to get a band through the Nomination round (50.1% needed to advance) Only posters who voted and posted in the Nomination round for that band may vote in the final round. That way no one brand new, or who has not followed the discussion can influence the vote. (2/3 Majority needed) Voting done by PM to PMO then made public when the results are in. Thoughts? I also had a thought about how often we should have induction threads and I say 4 times a year, once for each season that allows 12 weeks of voting in between inductions and should provide us with 6-10 bands to vote on in each induction thread.

I haven't had any dodgy ones yet from people under that limit, and i still want the nominations rolling in so this will only make them decrease.

Yes is a great band, but not for the hall of fame. |

This is ridiculous, we're divided by what we think the criteria for this should be.
So a lot of people vote against yes because they don't like them, fair enough. But people vote against Yes even though they love them just because they think they are not popular or important enough? Wtf? Isn't liking them all that matters? Thats what you've all been saying. I'm confused. Admittingly I did vote against Elliott Smith even though I like him, I just don't consider him important enough, but now I'm not so sure by what criteria we should actually be voting on. |
