Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

For the love of all that is good in the world, no, Belle And Sebastian should not make it into the hall of fame. I have in the past compared their music to some kind of awful artisan bread that is hyped to the heavens by artisan bread aficionados as something amazing, but when you actually try a piece it's just dry and bland and stale and... well... bread. I still think this is a pretty apt metaphor for this excruciatingly boring band who, for me, represent everything that can be awful about indie pop.

I am definitely a fan of Belle and Sebastian's music, although I might have to dig in and listen to them a lot more the next couple of days, because I'm not quite sure they are HOF material. When I look through the bands that have already been inducted and then imagine B & S in the group, they seem out of place compared to all of the amazing artists that are there now. So for now, I abstain.

You've pretty much summed up how i feel. As much as i love Belle and Sebastian i don't think they've made enough impact on music to be worthy of a place in the Hall Of Fame just yet. I'm gonna sit on the fence for this one.

Wow it seems like I'm reading the 'Unpopular Music Opinions' thread. Interesting.
I actually really like some of their music, particularly If You're Feeling Sinister and their first 3 EPs (Lazy Line Painter jane).
After that.. I dunno. I don't like it enough to nominate them and I was fairly horrified to see them described as 'Twee' in the writeup.

Anyway, Janszoon, I think this this is the first time that I've distinctly disagreed with you on music. Would you mind telling me how B&S represent everything that can be awful about indie pop? I don't begrudge your opinion - just curious

No. I'm a fan, but they're just not worthy enough to be in the HoF.

I voted yes. Not one of my favourites, but they made some really good albums. Plus, it was a while ago since there was an artist that I liked that was up for nomination.

Far too patchy for my liking.

For every 3 songs on most of their albums I like, the rest sends me to sleep.

I wasn't expecting to do well but there is a huge lack of indie and modern day bands in the hof and if you need a modern indie band B&S are the perfect choice.

Something about them never quite clicked with me... I understand their appeal and all, and why alot of folks might love 'em, but i just could never get into them... so sorry to B & S fans, i'm going for a no vote this time...
