Same here. I say yes. For practically the same reasons. I like his playing, but he doesn't do all that much for me. But he HAS done a lot for many many others and I respect that. I yes from me. He deserves it.

This is why I advocate completely removing the poll and just editing the OP as necessary. Gives people a chance to expound upon their decision and removes the one-liner idiots from being given a chance to influence things.

That requires alot more upkeep though.
I'm torn on this one. On the one hand it does seem a little biased not to count the vote, seeing as others who've voted with no explanation have helped determine whether or not an artist makes it into the HOF. On the other, there is the great possibilty that he's just trolling and voted no just to spoil it for everyone. He has over 100 posts, i've seen him post around here and he seems fine. Do I think he's a poor voter? Yes. A straight troll? Probably not. |

Well the entire point to this thread is to:
a) expose members to music that other members find enticing here and b) honor those artists recognized here as having made a fantastic contribution to musical history. Making this a system where votes are tallied from a poll does little to satisfy either of these. Plus it inhibits our ability to actually hold discussion without having to battle the morons that come in, say "never heard of them" and not come back until the next nomination is up. I rarely vote for these nominations anymore because I feel like I don't derive as much pleasure from exercising my index finger twice as actually saying something. (Plus I tend to be a little more ambivalent towards artists here than most. But that's just me.) Is any of this ringing true for anyone else?

I hear you. This is one of the most defining threads of the entire site, maybe some regulations are in order. I just want to stay away from discouraging people from voting by making them feel like a 500 word essay on why an artist should or shouldn't be included is nessicary.

I completely agree, but it's almost as disheartening as the Albums You're Digging thread. I honestly could not give a fuck if you post a jpeg, learn how to write a descriptive sentence that gives me a sense of what it is you're digging.

yeah, i want an explanation to that 'no' vote, and something more substantial than 'because i can' or 'he sucks'.
i don't want to know why someone doesn't like his music (they just don't - that's fine), i want to know why someone doesn't think Hendrix should be in a hall of fame. |

Unlike most people I didn't vote him in for his prowess on the guitar. I couldn't give a stuff about that or how influential he was or whether he was the first to do something.
I voted for him because of the way he can go from playing blues to R&B to soul to rock to pop to , well noise basically. and make it sound totally effortless and still make it sound like nobody else on earth. That's why I voted for him.

I clicked the the wrong option
Can it be changed? I don't mind if you delete it... I don't think anyone would vote against him, really. Whether or bit they like his music is irrelevant, as he is one of the most influiencial people in guitaring history... Sorry for the inconvinience. Last edited by mrguy; 04-13-2010 at 03:20 PM. |
