I don't smoke anything, drink pretty lightly, and I personally enjoy, love and find a great deal of personal engagement with all of Tools music and the atmospheres they create. So, yeah, you may find them great to get stoned to, but it isn't a prerequisite to getting into their music and being involved in it.

Damn 16 votes on either side.

Do they even get in if they only win by one vote or something like that?

Captain Beefheart? Blur? My Bloody Valentine?

But Tool can't get in? If your reason for denying Tool is based on what should represent the MB Hall of Fame then why are the above bands in but not Tool?

They are a very influential band, even if most of the music they have spawned isn't necessarily good. But Tool is awesome, so who cares? They are clearly skilled musicians, who are very creative and bring a lot to the table outside of their music.

It's okay to have a modern alt-metal band in the MB HOF!

Because less people like Tool than Blur/Cap'n/etc etc. I would say its an attempt to reflect the tastes of MB rather than any homage to any type of influence (For me at least).

i think one of the largest problems people have with Tool is the image which they provoke from people as this pseudo-intellectual, drug-embalmed cultural virus that stains everything in their wake. and it's easy to get disenchanted with them when their fans project such rabidly moronic philosophies.

i can imagine the measured antagonistic attitude from people here but it's really all old hat from my perspective. hating on Tool is just about as imaginative as hating on U2 -- you really don't give a shit about the music, but damn is their frontman annoying.

yeah, that's the worst when people can't get past that and just listen to the music.

I don't mind Tool but I don't consider them particularly groundbreaking and unfortunately their influence seems to be only on a lot of really awful bands so they get the no vote from me.

I'll go ahead and say yes. They've influenced a couple bands that I like (Rishloo and Fair To Midland) and if anything I think they deserve a shot. They'll probably get put out in the induction round, but you know, why not let them get at least that far? I dig what they do.
