Sorry, Tool fans, but it's a no for me.
To me they sound like a heavier, more complex version of a generic 90s alternative rock band. They've got some tricks - but those don't make up for their overall languid sound. I wish their music was as good as the artwork featured on their albums - and those claymation videos are awesome. But still no.

Ouch! Am I detecting a post 90's anti Tool backlash? Not feeling the kinda love I thought they always used to have...

Maybe - but no backlash from me. If anything I am a bit stuck in the 90s and am anti-Tool because I have been since their beginning. I almost didn't post a vote because I do respect them as a cut above a lot of 90s alternative rock. It's just that they've always rubbed me the wrong way.
Still, I'm also a little surprised by the lack of Tool love. I always thought that almost everybody really did/does like them.

With the most pretentious lead singer in rock, Tool in my honest opinion are just a bunch of stoned guys who make songs with 30+ time signature changes.
Just kidding, although my vote still doesn't change (either does my opinion of Maynard Keenan). Tool really haven't been influential enough for a nomination. Their music is weak prog metal with more time signature changes than notes, which although it hasn't been done before, probably never will be done again either.

Where'd ya get the idea they have that many time changes.

I don't pretend to know everything there is about music, and I don't know ****all about Prog, but Tool creates an atmosphere that (imo) notes and time sig changes come second to.

Which I'm behind because a lot of what was going on with Lateralus was incredible.

I thought 10k Days was a little more song oriented than album, but the songs that were big were tremendous. I think Tool's biggest downfall are their fans.

I used to be a huge Tool fan, eveything from the time signatures to the guitar feedback made them the most interesting band on the planet for a certain 15 year old. If it weren't for them I'd still be listening to Green Day and bands along that line. So, they get a big thumbs up from me.

One of their songs (Schism if I remember correctly) apparently on one listenhad 47 different time signiture changes in it.
I was exaggerating (obviously lol) about the amount of time signature changes they have in their songs but I still don't believe they should be in the HOF since although they create this 'atmosphere' (which in my opinion is only good when you're under the influence of cannabis) their music isn't that accessible and listenable even for people like me who have a love for the weird and wacky.
