Stop changing your stance on what it takes to get into the HOF.
Elliott Smith got in despite having no real impact whatsoever, and that's just because everyone here likes him. If you like them, just f*cking vote for them. |

2. Elliot Smith is the king of the whole indie acoustic thing in my eyes, which happens to be a pretty f'n big deal (indie-acoustic, that is) right now. Elliott Smith didn't exactly influence a lot of good music, but he did influence quite a bit, just like Nirvana. |

I voted yeah, they have everything I look for in a great modern day band. They have made quite a few good albums and I assume they will continute to do so. Certainly more deserving than most others.

I'm going to say yes. Once you accept them for their over the top vocals and music they are a pretty fun band to listen to. Sure they don't have an amazing albums but they really don't have any bad ones either. Like Coldplay they started at the start of millennium channeling Radiohead's Bends/OK Computer era sound, though the channel must have had bad reception because musically they don't sound that similar too Radiohead. It seems after Showbiz they gave up on that idea and went for a more over the top sound. In terms of musicianship they are all talented , (it's too bad they don't know how to use it sometimes) Matt is a great guitar player and vocalist (though his lyrics are pretty meh, but his voice makes up for that) Chris is an exceptional bass player, and Dom is a decent drummer who usually fills the gaps in the music. I think they have alot of potential to make a truly memorable record if they lose some of their pop ethics. At times you can see them living up to that potential in songs such as New Born, Black Out, ect ect and at other times they come dangerously close but fail such as Take a Bow. They are one of the few bands I enjoy that get regular radio play aswell.

What's the only thing keeping rock/pop music dull nowadays? If f-cking Katy Perry could write worth a sh-t I'd be the biggest f-cking fan in the world. Most of the time the music's been done a thousand times over, if the combination of tunes, production and most importantly lyrics flow nicely, that's a good act in my opinion.
I could sing "I love you" or I could sing "I love poo", extreme example but it makes that much of a difference to me when a band sings cliched lyics/topics. I don't care about how much you love your girl and how much you feel it in your soul or whatever the hell they try to get away with. |
