It's "Thijs" and I don't think he's an ugly man (as you mention). Something interesting is that picture is from their most famous song (Hocus Pocus), yet it is not very representative of their music at all which is generally much less hard-rocky. I also have a Thijs Van Leer solo album (Introspection 2) and that's classical music.

I'm seriously kidding when I post this by the way because without all the face paint Mathias is probably one of the best looking frontmen in the entire music industry.. Hell, he even looks good with the face paint, this just happens to be a horrible, funny ass picture of him..
