Has to be 'The Stone Roses' for me.
I was into Sean Paul, Nelly, Blue, 5ive etc when I was 10-15, then I happened across "The Very Best of The Stone Roses... Pretty much changed my opinion of Music and stopped me from listening to the radio.

It's hard to tell for me: Like many here I grew up in a house filled with music - my mum would literally always have something playing, though it was mostly classical. Music in the car tended to be more rock-oriented though - Terrorvision, Supergrass, Radiohead (I still have a slight love affair with listening to music in cars).
If I were to choose one band that really kick-started music for me, it was probably Radiohead, by virtue of the fact that The Bends was the album played in our car the most one particular summer, but the truth of the matter is that it probably started with the ten blank CD's that I gave a classmate when I was 13, that game back completely loaded with loads of different artists. Most of those original CDs are scratched beyond playing now, but the music that was one them still forms a foundation for much of what I listen to today.

Haha, I never stick around for extended periods of time, generally because I'll go a few months (or years, on occasion) without remembering to log in...

Music was around me for my whole life from when I was born, with both my parents being musicians and most of their friends being musicians, so music was so second nature to me, because it was always just there. That is, until I heard Led Zeppelin's debut album at age 6. That album really made me want to investigate music and listen to it instead of just hearing music. It made me start listening to all of the bands that had been playing throughout the house for my whole life.
The artist that made me search for new music, not just the backtracks of all the artists I had heard my whole life, was Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band. I heard Safe as Milk at age 14 and, after listening to it nonstop for a few months, I went into the Captain's other albums that really stuck with me. That was the start of my drive to hunt down new music from old favourites or unheard of artists.

My dad was the one who got me into real rock, as my mum was more into ballads and pop songs (coldplay etc.). My dad would always play the Dire Straits 'Brothers in Arms' in the car when we were out and about, so between the ages of 7 and 11 that was what I thought was good music. However, the first album that I bought that I listened to over and over was Bon Jovi's 'Slippery When Wet'! Althought nowadays I'm completely in love with R.E.M, the Dire Straits and Bon Jovi were the bands that I really clicked with
