I have grown up with a lot of music because of my parents, but the band that really got me into music, was The Beatles. I had to write about them for a school assignment, but I ended up listening to all of their songs and otherwise obsessing over them.
Before that I had periods of listening to people such as Avril Lavigne and Fall Out Boy, but I'd say it was The Beatles who really got me interested.

First? Green Day.
Seriously, bitch all you want about how terrible they are (it's not entirely undeserved), but at 11, I thought they were the best thing that had ever happened to me. I'm pretty sure I was watching some stupid interview or something where they mentioned the Clash as a major influence, so what did I do? My preteened self went out and bought a copy of London Calling. Anyways, London Calling made way for Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols, which made way for Blank Generation, which led eventually to Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables and it's just gotten progressively worse over the years since then.

I always remember liking music, even from very early on.
But my parents were never musically diverse, so growing up I was never really exposed to anything beyond what would be played on your typical classic rock/80's radio station...therefore, most of what I liked was The Beatles/Queen/The Doors/etc., etc... So naturally, it makes sense that the first band to REALLY pique my interest is Led Zeppelin....their sound was so intense and heavy to me, and Robert Plant was a magnet (both for my ears and for my eyes..) But at the beginning all I knew of them WAS their heavier material, so when I first heard Going to California, it really made me want to check out other genres, because I thought "wow, if they can be musically diverse, I want to be too!"

Probably Muse. While I still like them a lot, they got me interested in music that was not mainstream, really opened my eyes to the whole trove of music that I never even heard about, much less ignored.

My parents don't really listen to music much so I only got my first CD when I was 12 - Red Hot Chili Pepper's Greatest Hits. Don't really like them anymore but they'll always have a nostalgic value as the band that started my love for music I suppose. Only got internet access a year ago so before them I didn't really know anything about music, apart from what was in the charts and played on MTV.

My Chemical Romance, about 2 years ago. I discovered them randomly on myspace, and then slowly became obsessed with them >.< From then on, I discovered other bands by related youtube videos and, I don't know, everything just kind of bloomed from there. Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan. Then I got interested in other genres. Acoustic, R&B, pop punk. I became a music explorer ;D I'm not obsessed with MCR anymore, but they are still my favorite band and will always have a special place in my heart for helping me discover the various branches of music. (:
