Yeah I could, but I'd have to give it another run-through to refresh my memory...I'll plan to do that in the next few days. I could tell you which songs are 5/5 right off the bat though. I'm really curious what others will have to say about this album.

I'm right in the middle of it atm. I'm liking it though. I'm pretty sure I've laughed or smiled during every song...whether it was a, "Wow wtf is going on here?! " type smile...or just a, "Wow this is in fun! " smile. It's a little hard to digest because the songs all seem very diffrent from each other so far, so I'm already sure I'll have to listen more than a few times.
So far I really like Roses Are Free and Take Me Away the most I think...and Spinal Meningitis was the weirdest. All in all...quite fascinating. Edit: Oh I actually recognize one of these songs now. Voodoo Lady was from the Dude Where's My Car soundtrack. |

Ahh...ween one of my favorites. I've listened to this album time and again I love how eclectic they are. Good choice, I'm interested to see what people who haven't heard it before think.

Ween - Chocolate and Cheese
I just played this again for the purpose of sharing my thoughts in this thread, as a long-time fan of the album. 1994...the year I graduated high school. What that means is there was a lot of partying going on, particularly with weed and LSD. This album was such a blast to play in the car or at small parties with friends. Stylistically it really is all over the place, covering genres I don't even listen to...but their humor and great songwriting just makes it work for me. Some of the songs are just pure pop gems. My ultimate favorites are A Tear for Eddie, Baby Bitch, and What Deaner Was Talkin' About. I also quite like Buenas Tardes Amigo though it requires more patience and attention to the vocals to enjoy. Those 4 have stood the test of time for me (mainly the first 3). In addition to those, back in the day I also really liked Spinal Meningitis, Roses Are Free, and Voodoo Lady. While I still like them and think they are great songs, I don't enjoy them to the extent that I once did. There are a few passable songs on the album, as well. For me those would be Joppa Road, Candi and The HIV Song. All are good for a laugh here or there, and are by no means bad, just passable. The rest are good, just not favorites. Overall I feel the album is very easy to listen to, their first in that sense as all previous albums had some pretty harsh and inaccessible stuff. At one time I probably would have rated this album 4.5 or 5 stars, but nowadays I give it a 4, which is still "very good" in my book. Ween probably belongs somewhere in my top 10 list of bands (even if near the bottom), and I honestly feel that one could compile an album of their best pop songs that would rival any well known classic out there. But due to the nature of their "genre," the songs on any given album are always going to vary in style and therefore quality depending on your taste. Baby Bitch and A Tear for Eddie...that's what I'm talkin' about. Two songs I'd put on a favorite songs of all time list.

Sidewinder just about said it all as for as a review for me would go.
When i first got the album (which was just a few years ago in Uni), it blew me away. It was my first Ween album and I was amazed at the variety of styles that they managed to cover. A Tear For Eddie's chilled out guitar inspired me to start air guitaring right there with the song. Baby Bitch hit me close to home since I was going through a bad breakup at the time. I couldn't believe a band could make a song so creepy as Spinal Meningitis that I would be nervous to listen to it. All in all, this album is the perfect starter to get into Ween. Part of their appeal is that you never know what they will cover on their albums, so there is such an element of curiosity that it is hard not to check out their other stuff. And trust me, Ween is not adverse to trying absolutely anything. I listen to this album less now, but still highly regard it and I would say I agree with everything Sidewinder said about it including putting them in my top 10. I am privileged to be able to say I have seen then live. For this album...I give it a 8.5/10. The only thing that really knocks any Ween album down for me is the weird repetitive songs that fake out their endings (like Candi). I kinda get what they were trying to do with it but it just got annoying. I hope everyone who is listening for the first time enjoys this as much as I do!

Chocolate and Cheese is a really good album that I've been a fan of for many years. Like a lot of Ween albums it's pretty uneven, which I think is just a product their constantly shifting style, but it has some really amazing songs on it. Some of my favorite songs are "Freedom of '76", "Baby Bitch", "Voodoo Lady", and "What Deaner Was Talkin' About", the last one being best of the bunch IMHO. It does have some tracks I usually skip though, such as "Candi" and "The HIV Song".
