The bands I like are The Strokes, Art Brut, Artic Monkeys, KOL, guitar oriented alt. but my recommendations are in another direction, Snowpony Brazilian Girls Natalia Lafourcade |
I don't have any recommendations for you off-hand, but I just wanted to let you know it thrills my heart that you're still listening to Beirut and Citizen Cope.

I don't know this year's line-up, but the line-ups from the last few. of your I need more focused recommendations, though. What songs or what albums from which artist? ^_^ I don't have too much time on my hands after Christmas break. Quote:
Your taste is music is definitely a perfect example of the kind I wouldn't have found on my own, but music I love now and am glad to have been introduced to. |
Great thread Awwsugar, great thread. There's nothing better then to hear someone is even willing to stretch personal boundaries in what they listen to, in fact it was the entire point of my joining of this forum and have befitted from expending my own tastes more then I could have imagined. Hope you find something you like, usually about five spins + looking up all lyrics + singing the lyrics will break in an album I hated on the first spin enough so that I realize I love it... all though sometimes I just don't.
In any case I'm curious on how you're going to kick this beautiful thread off, if you're looking for some muse then PM me with what you're already diggin' and why and I'll see what I can do. =) Can't wait to see whatcha' review. |

I think next I might review The Shins because I've been hearing so much about them on this site. I might do Meg and Dia's new CD. Their first one I loved, but I hated the second so much that I refused to listen to it or consider the band worth my time ever again. I don't know how I'll do with five spins on an album I don't like much, but I'll definitely try. Looking up the lyrics is something I haven't tried unless I want to learn to sing a song, or I want to know the story of one, but that's definitely an idea I haven't yet considered. Aside from the musical aspect, I'm really glad you like it so much. [= Thank you for the support! |
I like this thread. I agree with everyone so far when they say this shouldnt be viewed as a necessity but i know you aren't thinking of it that way so that's cool. Genuinely wanting to listen to and discover music that is new to you or that falls outside of your comfort zone is, in my experience, a very enjoyable and rewarding journey and since i joined this site i've been doing a lot of it.
You already know that i think you should start with some Massive Attack :p: and i'll also get you that Alcest record among other things for now. |
When I joined MB last year, I was just like this. Then I just started taking more and more suggestions from people, and now my taste isn't even recognizable. Good luck.

And I didn't know if you wanted me to directly quote you or not! I'll fix that. ;]] Quote:

And yes do the Shins! They are awesome, and I think you will like them (though I have no idea really). That's a good choice for sure. |
I don't think everyone loves Massive Attack. I listen to Mezzanine once in a while and it's a great album, but oddly enough despite my love of trip hop I've never been into anything else by them, Tricky, or Portishead. Just make sure you don't try to force yourself to like anything, though I don't think you need to hear that :)
