How Can I Provide My Music For Free?
Hello, my band has a myspace but we are looking to branch out from the generic. Is there any site or provider out there that can allow us to upload songs and allow our fans to download songs for FREE?
Are there preferably any that would be of no cost to us to attain/maintain? Thanks

Put all your mp3 songs into one file, then zip the file, then upload said file to a media upload site like Mediafire or Megaupload (avoid rapidshare at all costs). After the file has been uploaded there will be a link and you can then post that link on your Myspace page for people to download and unzip. Mediafire and Megaupload are both free and you can upload as many files as you want.
If you just want to do it song by song then only upload the song you want and then post the link. You may also want to try the website amiestreet.com You upload your music and it starts off as a free download, but as the more popular you get the price on it starts slowly rising (Usually never over 8 dollars). It's a great way for independent artists to publish their music at a fair and reasonable cost and mingle a little bit more with their fans. |

Get in a van for 6 months, starve and play any toilet that'll have you.

As mentioned, last.fm is a good place. You could also contact some netlabels that specialize in the genre of your music and see if they'll release it. However just because you're offering it for free doesn't mean they'll take you on...they still have to like your stuff.

Last.fm would be your best bet since some people have no idea of how to go through the process of unzipping files.
Here's an example of a band that is providing some free music: Evil Empire – Discover music, videos, concerts, & pictures at Last.fm If you scroll towards the bottom right above the shoutbox where it keeps track of how often your tracks are played you it gives people the option to download them for free. But if you wanted to go about giving out full albums for free using Megaupload like LoathsomePete said would be your best bet. |

Well yes, we would like to give the option of downloading full albums but also random singles that we put as well. So Last FM is generally good for singles but yet not so great for albums?
Thanks for your insight
