Ok so maybe Gang Of Four was a bad example. My points no less poignant.

Ok? The "Post punk" revival pulled from garage bands of the 60's and post punk bands of the 80's to sort of create that movement. Today though, this fairly new resurgence of post-punk doesn't so much draw from any other era of music other than straight post-punk from the late 70's/80's. Today's post punk bands might try and get you to dance a bit with a few of their songs but on the whole the sound they're creating pulls directly from the PP playbook. No added genres.
