David Bowie - Young Americans
This is just fucking terrible for the most part. An exception being 'Fame', which is alright. The goddamn saxophone and backing chick vocals completely murder nearly every song, which were already just decent at best. And this wasn't my first time with the album, it seems to hurt my ears more each time.

I disagree pretty strongly on the Young Americans one. Except for Diamond Dogs I consider Bowie's whole 70s discography to be untouchable. If you're gonna go after something Bowie, go after Tin Machine, good god.

Anyway. Proof that it doesn't matter how mind blowingly untalented you are (and this guy had NONE), grab an accoustic guitar, sing juvenile "symbolic" hippie lyrics like a sedated retard and you're sure to get a following with the indie folk fag crowd. Does shunning talent ever get tiresome for these people? Apparently not. An absolute disaster of a record. This guy can't do anything even half competently, cannot play the guitar, cannot construct anything remotely similar to a melody, and he has a voice like a dying moose. Seriously, Woodie Gutrhie put more effort into his work even during his whole "hey I'm gonna start intentionally writing songs as if they were made by a f*cking one year old" period. Worst musician of all time. And before Ethan returns to the forum only to respond with some hideously pathetic attempt at a troll by ranting on about some album he can't even spell the name of properly let alone actually took the time to listen to (which isn't possible because any hint of electric guitar or actual excitement makes him physically ill), yes, I have listened to this album, it really is that damn bad. These things have a way of provoking flame wars when it's really unnecessary to begin with. Watch your language.

This is the only Superchunk I ever tried (about 7 years ago) and it was a major disappointment.

How is my post any less of an attempt at inciting a flame war than you posting a f*cking Blender list or telling me straight up that one of my favorite bands suck? Try answering that before I decide to take anything you say seriously. |

I have On the Mouth and No Pocky for Kitty and they're both excellent. That Superchunk may have come up short but their early 90s material is by far what seems to be most representative of their collective sound. Reminds me a lot of early Archers of Loaf, another Chapel Hill band worth investigating.

I just really hate his music, I don't feel like I have to elaborate because I'm sincerely puzzled over why it isn't just a widely accepted fact that this guy was a hack.
And isn't trash talking pretty much the point of threads like these anyway? As for Ethan, I'm picking on a guy who doesn't even visit the forum anymore, I don't get the big deal about that, but I'll stop if it bothers you so much. As well as the digs at Indie fans. That's just really really hard not to do. Last edited by boo boo; 03-15-2010 at 10:31 AM. |

There's no need to resort to petty insults, especially about people who are no longer active members.
